The sincere and warm feelings between the people of the two countries are a precious common asset, a source of pride and a driving force for the Vietnam-Hungary relationship to continue to reach new heights.
Looking back on the journey of three-quarters of a century of close ties and companionship between Vietnam and Hungary, Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Bui Le Thai affirmed that Vietnam always appreciates Hungary's support and companionship; the relationship between the two countries over the past 75 years has continuously developed, becoming a model of trust and effective cooperation, reinforced by many high-level visits in recent times.
The great geographical distance cannot prevent the good relationship between the two countries from developing. During the difficult war years of the Vietnamese people, Hungarian friends, although living in another continent, always turned to Vietnam, accompanied, stood side by side, and sincerely helped both materially and spiritually. Many Vietnamese engineers and experts were trained in Hungary, acquiring valuable knowledge to contribute to the construction of Vietnam.
In 2018, Vietnam and Hungary established a Comprehensive Partnership, marking a milestone in the history of bilateral relations. Political relations between the two countries have been increasingly strengthened through visits and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels, taking place through Party, Government, National Assembly, and local channels. The two sides also support each other at multilateral forums and on many international issues. The close ties between generations of leaders and people of Vietnam and Hungary have become a solid foundation for bilateral relations to continue to develop strongly in recent times and reap many proud achievements.
Hungary is one of Vietnam's important partners in Central Europe. Bilateral trade turnover has grown steadily in recent times. Many Hungarian enterprises are continuing to expand their investment activities in Vietnam in areas such as pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, food, agriculture and defense industry.
In addition, the two countries are making efforts to continue expanding cooperation in areas of both sides' strengths and needs such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and labor. Educational cooperation is a traditional area of cooperation and also a bright spot in the bilateral relationship.
During the period 1950-1990, Hungary helped Vietnam train thousands of cadres and engineers. Many of them hold important positions in the State apparatus as well as in the socio-economic life of Vietnam.
Currently, Hungary annually grants 200 scholarships to Vietnamese students to study at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is one of the countries that offers the most scholarships to Vietnamese students in the Central and Eastern Europe region. Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Tibor Baloghdi said that the deep connection between the two peoples is a sustainable foundation for bilateral relations. Cultural and educational exchange activities are the bridge for this traditional relationship.
Mr. Tibor Baloghdi shared that, in order to introduce Hungary's rich cultural heritage to the Vietnamese public, the Hungarian Embassy in Vietnam regularly organizes cultural weeks, film screenings and exhibitions. Despite the changes and fluctuations that have been and are taking place in the world, the leaders and people of Vietnam and Hungary have expressed their determination to continuously preserve and foster the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
The year 2025 is an important milestone, an opportunity for the two countries to look back on the proud 75-year journey of developing their relationship, and at the same time identify important directions and measures to bring the good Vietnam-Hungary relationship to continue to develop brilliantly, reaching new heights in the next stages.
