Following the success of the seasons from 2018 to present and especially in 2023, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, 50 years of friendship between Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), from December 15 to 17, at Thanh Pho Moi Stadium, Binh Duong province, the U.13 Vietnam - Japan international youth football tournament will take place.
The tournament has the participation of U.13 teams from Japan: Kawasaki Frontale, Yokohama FC, Kataller Toyama, Shimizu S-pulse; FELDA Football Academy team from Malaysia and 7 Vietnamese teams: Becamex Binh Duong, Hanoi, PVF, Hue, Binh Phuoc , Dong Thap, Phu Nhuan (HCMC).
The previous tournament with the participation of Japanese teams was exciting.
The teams will be divided into 3 groups, competing in a round robin to calculate the ranking points, then based on the qualifying round results, the teams will be selected for the semi-finals and the remaining teams will compete for rankings from 5th to 12th. The competition will take place continuously in the morning and afternoon of December 15, 16 and the morning of December 17. On the afternoon of December 17, the organizing committee will hold an All Star match between Vietnam and Japan, gathering the best players, selected from the participating teams and broadcast live on VTV5. Mr. Yamada Takio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, Honorary Advisor of the tournament said: "This tournament is a great opportunity for the young generation, the future owners of the country, to learn from each other and improve themselves, while enhancing cross-border exchanges through football.
The tournament is expected to be broadcast on Facebook, targeting audiences not only in Japan and Vietnam but also in Southeast Asian countries. This tournament, in addition to connecting the exchange relationship that has been nurtured between Japan and Vietnam, will be expanded to ASEAN countries, contributing to the further development of world football as well as the Japan-Vietnam and Japan-ASEAN relations."
Exciting and thrilling competition
Mr. Yoshida Akihiro, Head of the tournament's Organizing Committee, said: "The Vietnam - Japan U.13 International Youth Football Tournament, held for the first time in 2018, has become an international playground for U.13 generation children of both countries to have the opportunity to interact through football. From 2020 to 2022, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament only had the participation of Vietnamese teams, but from the 5th tournament this year, youth clubs in Japan will return after 3 years, promising to bring exciting and thrilling matches to young football fans of the two countries."

Becamex Binh Duong Club Chairman Ho Hong Thach emphasized: "We cooperate with Japan to maintain this playground every year to increase opportunities for young Vietnamese players to compete and gain experience. Competing with the top youth teams of Japan or Malaysia is a challenge and a good development opportunity for young Vietnamese football. From this tournament, Vietnamese football and the participating countries can find talents."

The results of the grouping are as follows: Group A: Becamex Binh Duong, Hue, Phu Nhuan (HCMC), Yokohama Tsurumi (Japan). Group B: Binh Phuoc, Hanoi, Kataller Toyama and Shimizu S-Pulse (Japan). Group C: PVF, Dong Thap, Kawasaki Frontale (Japan), Felda Football Academy (Malaysia).
