Nearly 2,000 athletes conquered the 1.9km swim on Phu Quoc beach from early morning.
On November 19, opening the competition, thousands of athletes entered the 1.9 km (1.2 mile) swimming event at Bai Truong - one of the most beautiful beaches of Phu Quoc Island ( Kien Giang ).
Immediately after finishing the swim, the athletes continued to speed up the 90km (56 miles) cycling around the southern area of Phu Quoc Island before completing the 21.1km (13.1 miles) run and finishing at the beach right in front of the Marina Phu Quoc resort and entertainment complex.
Disabled swimmer Trinh Thi Bich Nhu (Kien Giang) - an athlete who won dozens of medals at world swimming competitions for disabled swimmers participated in the swimming event at IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Kien Giang province Tran Nguyen Ba shared: "Currently, the trend of tourism associated with sports is popular with many people. Through this event, we will advise the Provincial People's Committee to organize more sports events and make it an annual activity in Phu Quoc."
The success of IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc demonstrates the pearl island's potential in developing internationally branded sports tourism products, thereby increasing its competitiveness with other island destinations in the region.

Athlete Mark Allen (USA) said: "As soon as I set foot in Phu Quoc, I found this place wonderful. The sea, mountains and forests are all very beautiful and very impressive."
