After winning 3-1 against Lens at Old Trafford on August 5, Man Utd flew to Dublin (Ireland) to play a friendly match with Bilbao last night (August 6).
In this match, coach Ten Hag used a lineup that combined first team players and young talents.
Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho were all named in the starting line-up by Ten Hag.
Man Utd dominated the game but in the 29th minute, Bilbao unexpectedly scored the opening goal. After Maguire's disastrous passing mistake, the Basque team launched a quick attack. Neco Williams beat goalkeeper Tom Heaton to open the scoring.
After conceding the goal, the Red Devils tried to push up the attack to find a goal. However, they did not create many breakthroughs. The turning point of the match appeared in the 67th minute. Bilbao defender Aitor Paredes was sent off after receiving a direct red card.
Man Utd tried their best to find a goal. They missed a few good chances. However, in the last minute of injury time, the Red Devils scored an equalizer.
As fate would have it, Maguire went from sinner to hero. The English centre-back jumped high to head the ball for Facundo Pellistri to run down and score into Bilbao's net.
Thus, Man Utd's 2023 summer training camp has come to an end. After this match, they will return to Manchester to prepare for the Premier League opener against Wolves at Old Trafford on August 15.
