Offering flowers at Ho Chi Minh Park in Havana, Cuba on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, on the morning of September 2 (Cuba time), at Ho Chi Minh Park in the capital Havana, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba in coordination with the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) solemnly held a flower offering ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The ceremony was attended by representatives of agencies and organizations of the two countries, including President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) Fernando Gonzalez Llort; President of the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association Yolanda Ferrer Gomez; representatives of agencies, organizations, and Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Associations; teachers and students of Bertolt Brecht Secondary School, all officials, employees, spouses of the Vietnamese Representative Office in Cuba, and a large number of Vietnamese students studying in Cuba.

Speaking at the ceremony, Charge d'Affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba Duong Binh emphasized the great historical significance of National Day September 2, when President Ho Chi Minh declared the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with the truth "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom".

Chargé d’Affaires Duong Binh affirmed that after 80 years, Vietnam has achieved great and historic achievements in all fields, from a poor, colonial country to one of the 35 largest economies in the world and in the top 20 countries with the largest international trade scale. In particular, Chargé d’Affaires Duong Binh expressed his deep feelings and gratitude for the solidarity, invaluable and wholehearted support of the Cuban people for Vietnam during the most difficult years, from aid of sugar, milk, medicine to human resource training.

“We consider supporting Cuba an obligation, an order from the heart of every Vietnamese person and the implementation of President Ho Chi Minh's Testament,” Mr. Duong Binh emphasized.

At the same time, he also affirmed that Vietnam is ready to stand side by side with Cuba to overcome all challenges, being the largest Asian investor and the second largest trade partner of Cuba on the continent.

Mr. Fernando Gonzalez Llort highly appreciated the campaign “65 years of Vietnam-Cuba solidarity” launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society , with the participation of nearly 2 million people in just 3 weeks, considering it a vivid symbol of the strong friendship. He also expressed his deep gratitude for Vietnam’s steadfast support for the struggle to end the embargo on Cuba.

The ICAP President affirmed: "Cuba is willing to stand beside Vietnam in the common steps to build a prosperous, developed and sustainable nation as President Ho Chi Minh always wished."

He also said that on the same day, September 2, Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Centers across Cuba's provinces and cities also organized meaningful activities to celebrate Vietnam's National Day.

The ceremony ended with the proud melodies of a special cultural program performed by troubadour artist Nelson Valdés and warm souvenir photos, marking an event filled with brotherly friendship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.
