Promoting preparations for the State visit of the President of South Africa to Vietnam

On the afternoon of October 22, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan received Mr. Ronald Lamola, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Africa, who is visiting and working in Hanoi to prepare for the State visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Vietnam from October 23-24 at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.

At the reception, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan expressed his pleasure to welcome the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to Vietnam for the first time.

On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan thanked the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for their close coordination in promoting bilateral relations in recent times, especially in preparing for high-level visits as well as supporting cooperation between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan said that the South African President's state visit to Vietnam this time is the first head-of-state visit in nearly 20 years, expressing his belief that this will be an important milestone, creating momentum for the two countries' relationship to develop in a breakthrough way in the coming time.

South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ronald Lamola affirmed that the South African President's state visit to Vietnam on October 23-24 is of great significance in strengthening bilateral relations, especially in areas such as trade, investment, mineral cooperation as well as cooperation between law enforcement agencies.

Minister Ronald Lamola emphasized that the two sides need to promote export cooperation, connect businesses, and increase partner diversification, and the two countries' Foreign Ministries need to coordinate closely to carry out these tasks.

Mr. Ronald Lamola said that the State visit of the South African President to Vietnam this month and the participation of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders in the G20 Summit in South Africa next November are clear evidence of the importance of high-level delegation exchanges.

The South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed that he will coordinate well with the Vietnamese side to best prepare for the activities of Vietnamese high-ranking leaders attending the Conference.

Regarding multilateral cooperation, Minister Lamola said that South Africa agreed to strengthen cooperation at the United Nations, G77, African Union and with ASEAN. At the same time, he congratulated and appreciated Vietnam for hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime; and acknowledged and supported Vietnam's efforts in upholding international law.

The participation of the South African Minister of Justice at the opening ceremony of the Convention demonstrates the country's commitment to ensuring security and safety in cyberspace.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan expressed his agreement with the sharing and assessment of the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the bilateral relations between the two countries and made a number of proposals to improve the effectiveness of cooperation between the two ministries.

The focus is on coordinating and implementing diplomatic activities well on all channels to strengthen political trust, while promoting cooperation in priority areas, taking trade and investment cooperation as a driving force to strengthen cooperation in many other areas.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan asked the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to advise the South African Government to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses and communities currently living and working in the country, affirming that effective cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries will contribute to further deepening bilateral relations in the coming time.
