The economic growth rate (GRDP) increases over the years, specifically: In 2021, it increased by 3.28% (ranked 2nd in the region and 39th in the country); in 2022, it increased by 13.94% (ranked 1st in the Mekong Delta and rose to 4th in the country); in 2023, the economic growth rate reached 12.27% (ranked 2nd in the country), the average income per capita was 80.33 million VND (an increase of 35.33 million VND compared to 2019). The average annual reduction in the province's poverty rate is high, at 1.66%. specifically, the province's poverty rate will be reduced from 5.11% (in 2019) to 3.29% (by the end of 2023).
Currently, 100% of communes in the region have asphalted or concreted roads to the commune center; 100% of hamlets have hardened roads to the center; 100% of schools and classrooms are solidly built; 100% of health stations are solidly built; 100% of ethnic areas have access to radio and television (5% higher); 99.82% of students from preschool to high school are mobilized (1.82% higher); 98% of clean water is used (14.19% higher).
In the period 2016 - 2020, Hau Giang province was approved by the Central Government for 49 extremely difficult hamlets and 32 communes in 3 ethnic minority areas (including 4 communes in area III, 14 communes in area II, and 14 communes in area I). However, by the period 2021 - 2025, the province's ethnic minority areas have decreased to 2 communes in area III (equivalent to a 50% decrease) and 43 extremely difficult hamlets in communes in area III (equivalent to a 87.75% decrease).
Up to now, Hau Giang has 41/51 communis meeting new rural standards, 11 communes meeting advanced new rural standards, 5 communes meeting model new rural standards, 3 districts/towns meeting standards, completing the task of building new rural areas. The province currently owns 266 OCOP products, including: 92 4-star OCOP products, 174 3-star OCOP products, 11 products registered for the Central 5-star OCOP product contest.
Education and training in ethnic minority areas have made much progress, the network of educational institutions has been widely developed, facilities have been invested in and upgraded, and the quality of education has been gradually improved. Policies for managers, teachers, and policies for ethnic minority children, pupils, and students have been fully and promptly implemented in accordance with regulations.
The work of eliminating illiteracy, universalizing education, and teaching ethnic minority languages has always been of great concern and has received consensus and high appreciation from society. Localities have done a good job of taking care of people's health, preventing major epidemics from occurring in the area.
Attention is paid to the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of ethnic groups. National defense and security are maintained; Ethnic groups in the province are always united, promoting to rise up, actively participating in the work of building the Party, the political system and the great national unity bloc.
