More than 5,000 runners at the 6th Mekong Delta Marathon

TPO - On the morning of July 6, in Vi Tan ward, Can Tho city (Vi Thanh city, old Hau Giang province), the 6th Mekong Delta Marathon in 2025 took place, with the participation of more than 5,000 domestic and foreign athletes.

This year's race attracted over 5,000 participants competing in four distances: 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km.

The Mekong Delta Marathon is a race founded by the former Hau Giang province, first held in 2019. It is considered the largest running event in the Mekong Delta region.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho, said that the race is both a playground and a motivation and source of inspiration for people of all ages, from urban to rural areas, to participate in running, continuing to respond to the nationwide movement for physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh.

With the theme "Shining Together," the race's message is not only to introduce to domestic and international friends the bright spots in the economy , culture, and society of the former Hau Giang province and the current Can Tho city. "Through this race, the city introduces its favorable investment attraction policies to the business community. At the same time, it creates opportunities for athletes to shine on the race routes certified by the International Marathon Association (AIMS)," Mr. Bay shared.

As a result, athlete Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa finished first in the women's 42km race with a time of 2 hours 59 minutes and 24 seconds. In the men's 42km race, the champion was athlete Kiptoo Edwin Yebei (Kenya) with a time of 2 hours 32 minutes and 44 seconds, marking his second consecutive first-place finish in this event at the competition (in 2024 with a time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 23 seconds).

In the women's 21km race, athlete Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan finished first with a time of 1 hour 25 minutes and 58 seconds. Athlete Hoang Nguyen Thanh finished first in the men's 21km race with a time of 1 hour 14 minutes and 55 seconds.
