Marine ecosystems are the largest aquatic ecosystems in the world . Marine ecosystems include nearshore ecosystems (such as salt marshes, mudflats, seagrass meadows, mangrove forests, rocky tidal flat systems and coral reefs...), offshore ecosystems (including offshore ecosystems, oceans, surface waters, deep seas, oceanic hydrothermal vents and seabeds...). Marine ecosystems are characterized by the biological communities associated with them and their physical environment.
In addition to providing many benefits to the natural world, marine ecosystems also provide many services and benefits related to human society, economy and biological ecosystems. Vietnam's marine ecosystem is quite diverse and plays a very important role in regulating climate and nutrition in the sea through biogeochemical cycles. Vietnam's sea area has about 20 typical ecosystems, distributed over 1 million km2 of area in the East Sea, with 155,000 hectares of mangrove forests, about 1,300 km2 of coral reefs, nearly 500 km2 of lagoons and about 16,000 hectares of seagrass, many tidal flats and estuaries, with about 11,000 species of living organisms, including approximately 6,000 species of benthic animals; 2,038 species of fish (including more than 100 species of economic fish); 653 species of seaweed; 657 species of zooplankton; 537 species of phytoplankton; 94 species of mangrove plants; 225 species of shrimp; 14 species of seagrass; 15 species of sea snakes; 12 species of marine mammals; 5 species of sea turtles and 43 species of water birds... According to estimates, each year, the profit from Vietnam's marine and coastal ecosystems is from 60 - 80 million USD, which is about 56 - 100 USD/year/family of residents living in coastal districts.
Through meticulous observation, through his lens, author Bui Trung Kien sent to the Organizing Committee of the Happy Vietnam Photo and Video Contest, photos of the coastal flora and fauna ecosystem in Hai Ha district, Quang Ninh province, which are extremely diverse and rich. In particular, the flora includes native and planted trees; the terrestrial fauna is also extremely rich with native and migratory birds coming in winter. Marine animals are diverse in quantity and species...
