In Ban Hoang hamlet, Truong Ha commune (Ha Quang), Truong Ha Cooperative of Ms. Dam Thi Thao's family has implemented a model of raising cold-water fish and growing melons, bringing initial results. Thereby, creating a stable source of income, bringing high economic efficiency, promoting the development of the local economy.
Right near the Pac Bo National Special Relic Site, everyone knows about the sturgeon farming model of Ms. Dam Thi Thao's family. Previously, her family mainly grew corn, rice, and raised small-scale livestock, and life was still difficult. Realizing that the locality had natural conditions suitable for the cold-water fish farming model, in 2017, after visiting the cold-water fish farming model in Sa Pa ( Lao Cai ), her family invested 200 million VND to build infrastructure with a farm area of over 750 m2 , install a pump system, water pipes, buy fish fry, and feed. At first, due to limitations in techniques, disease prevention, and treatment, the fish grew slowly, and diseases appeared, causing economic losses. Not discouraged, she and her family continued to learn about techniques and reputable fish fry suppliers in Lao Cai and Yen Bai to import good fish breeds, ensuring quality. From the initial trial farming of a few small tanks, the family's sturgeon farm has now expanded to 10 fish tanks, raising 4,000 - 5,000 fish per year, with an output of about 5 - 7 tons. The current price of commercial sturgeon ranges from 250 - 300 thousand VND/kg, bringing a stable income to the family.
Ms. Dam Thi Thao shared: After many years of raising cold water fish, I found that the water source and climate of Truong Ha commune are suitable for raising cold water fish, especially sturgeon will grow better because the local temperature is lower than other regions, moreover, the water source is clean, not polluted, suitable for raising this type of fish. Raising sturgeon brings high income, however, in the process of raising, there are some difficulties such as high investment capital, importing fish fry for raising, high cost of long distance transportation makes fish fry weak, limiting the replication and expansion of the model, along with that, fish feed uses 100% imported bran.
Implementing the smart agricultural model supported and accompanied by the People's Committee of Ha Quang district, in 2022, her family contributed 100 million VND to build a greenhouse with an area of over 1,000 m2 to implement the melon growing model. Currently, the third crop is being grown, after 2 crops, deducting expenses, the income is 150 million VND. The family continues to produce clean agricultural products associated with protecting the rural environment, protecting human health with fruits such as: watermelon, melon, hybrid melon, baby cucumber...
