Inter Miami made history by becoming the first MLS club to defeat a European side in a major tournament, following a dramatic 2-1 win over Porto. Coach Javier Mascherano expressed his excitement in the post-match press conference.

“I want to congratulate the players on their performance,” said coach Mascherano. “I feel proud to see the players play with courage, both with and without the ball. Today, we proved that the team can compete with any club in the world .”

Despite conceding an early goal to Porto's Samu Aghehowa penalty in the eighth minute, Inter Miami were undeterred. Two goals from Segovia and Lionel Messi helped the MLS club successfully turn the game around in the second half.

“If we have a plan and we execute it together with determination, we can face any opponent,” said Mascherano. “The way the team overcomes the difficulties in the game, keeping its identity, is admirable. Everyone is committed to what we are trying to do.”

Mascherano called it a “historic day” for Inter Miami. The Argentine coach also praised Messi, who scored the decisive goal from a free kick in the 54th minute to help his team come back from behind.

“He is a key player for Inter Miami to face any opponent. His hunger continues to show at every level. He leads the team and shows us the way to go,” Mascherano said.

This victory helped Inter Miami get 4 points, equal with Palmeiras but behind the Brazilian representative in Group A due to a lower goal difference. The two teams will face each other directly in the final round on June 24.
