Coach Shin Tae Yong officially has a coaching job after leaving Indonesia

(Dan Tri) - Coach Shin Tae Yong has officially taken over the hot seat of Ulsan Hyundai Club. This is his first destination after leaving the Indonesian national team.

Today (August 5), Ulsan Hyundai Club officially announced the appointment of Coach Shin Tae Yong to the "hot seat" to replace Coach Kim Pan Gon. This move marks the return to his homeland of the strategist born in 1970 after nearly 5 years working in Indonesia.

Coach Shin Tae Yong was fired by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) in January, despite his significant contributions to Indonesia's success in the third qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. Many Indonesian fans later expressed regret when the Korean coach left.

It was not until today that coach Shin Tae Yong officially found a new destination after a long wait. He is the 13th head coach in the history of the leading traditional football club in Korea.

Speaking at the Ulsan Hyundai Club launch, coach Shin Tae Yong said: “When I received the offer from Ulsan, I felt both happy and pressured. They have long been a top team in Korea.

I believe that if the team overcomes this difficult period, brighter days will surely return. I will devote my heart and energy to rebuilding the team and bringing Ulsan back to its original position.”

In the past, Ulsan Hyundai has won the Korean championship 5 times and finished as runner-up 10 times. In addition, this club has won the AFC Champions League twice. Recently, Ulsan Hyundai participated in the expanded version of the FIFA Club World Cup but was unsuccessful when losing all three matches against Dortmund, Fluminense and Mamelodi Sundowns.

This season, Ulsan Hyundai also played unsuccessfully in the Korean national championship when they only ranked 7th on the rankings with 31 points after 24 matches. That caused coach Kim Pan Gon to be fired.

Coach Shin Tae Yong has a lot of experience working in the Korean championship when he led Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma from 2008 to 2012. He helped the club win the 2010 AFC Champions League and the 2012 Korean National Cup. He also led the Korean national team from 2017 to 2018. This coach helped the Korean team enter the 2018 World Cup and won a historic victory over the German team.
