Vienna concert takes the capital's audience through many emotions

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí25/11/2024

(Dan Tri) - The audience gave a long round of applause to the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, conductor Harald Krumpöck and cellist Péter Somodari, when the last notes sounded.

Taking place for about two hours, The Vienna Concert at Hoan Kiem Theater on the evenings of November 23 and 24 took the capital's audience through many emotional states: fascination, climax, excitement, and joy.

The event is part of a series of annual international art programs organized by Hoan Kiem Theater to inspire classical music to Vietnamese audiences.

As a sponsor of the Vienna Concert series, Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank ( VPBank ) wishes to bring the capital's audience the opportunity to enjoy classical music and art, connecting the world's classical heritage.

Two nights of sublime music

The event marked the return of The Vienna Chamber Orchestra to Hanoi after 12 years since 2012, with the participation of conductor Harald Krumpöck and cellist Péter Somodari.

For about two hours, the concert took the audience to explore the heritage of classical music through the immortal works of composers Joseph Haydn, Johann Strauss, and Franz Schubert. These are all typical representatives of the classical music school of Vienna (Austria).

If Haydn is known as the "father" of symphony, Johann is known as the "king of waltz" and made great contributions to the development of waltz in 19th-century Vienna. Franz Schubert is one of the greatest musicians of the romantic music period.

The concert began with FJ Haydn's Symphony No. 73 (in D major, Hob. I:73). The audience experienced 20 minutes of sublimation and endless emotions. From a fast tempo, the sound of the violin emerged sharply and layered in the first movement, to a moderate, graceful, cheerful, lively tempo in the following movements, then returned to a fast, decisive tempo in the last movement.

FJ Haydn's music is still interesting when the cello No. 1 sounds intimate, witty, cheerful but no less delicate and virtuoso.

The audience also experienced memorable moments of classical music with Symphony No. 5 (in B-flat major D 485) by F. Schubert and Sounds of Spring (Frühlingsstimmen Waltz op. 410) - one of the most famous waltzes by Johann Strauss II. The orchestra was highly appreciated by the audience.

Before the audience's affection, the artists improvised and played Strauss Sohn's Tritsch tratsch and Banditen Galop with energy and fun.

After receiving applause from the audience, the artists performed an extra piece. The concert had ended but classical music lovers were still lingering on the stage. So the artists played one more piece to say goodbye to the audience.

One of the top concerts in recent times

Cellist Bui Ha Mien recalls that 5 or 7 years ago, the arrival of a famous international orchestra like the Vienna Chamber Orchestra in Vietnam was a rare event. Recently, famous orchestras have been gathering at the Hoan Kiem Theater. This is not only a dream for artists like her but also a great joy for the capital's audience in particular and the whole country in general.

Audience member Pham Hong Diep (39 years old) rated this as one of the top concerts recently. The artists conveyed each note in a subtle yet emotional way, leaving an impression on the audience.

"Hanoi is getting more and more bustling, but concerts like this help us find pure sounds, very close to nature. I believe the young audience for this music genre will gradually increase," said Ms. Pham Hong Diep.

Having heard of conductor Harald Krumpöck for a long time, Ms. Bui Thi Huong (50 years old) decided to fly from Ho Chi Minh City to listen to the Vienna Concert.

Ms. Huong shared: "The concert led the audience through many different emotional states: climax, romantic, gentle, relaxed. Sometimes majestic, joyful. I felt like I was at a very classic "party".

VPBank representative shared that the Vienna Concert is a spiritual gift from VPBank to the public to arouse passion and connect the capital's audience with the quintessence of European culture.

"We believe that the presence of talented artists performing classic music will bring a unique musical experience to the space of Hoan Kiem Theater - where the heart of European music meets the beauty of ancient Hanoi. The event also contributes to increasing the position of Vietnam as an attractive destination for world-famous artists," added a VPBank representative.
