Vietnamese students won 4 medals at Mendeleev International Chemistry Olympiad

NDO - All four students in the Vietnamese high school team participating in the 59th Mendeleev International Chemistry Olympiad in 2025 won medals, with 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals.

The 59th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad took place from May 5 to 12 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

At the invitation of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Vietnamese delegation participated with a team of 4 high school students. These students were selected from the results of the 2025 Regional and International Olympic Team Selection Exam. The University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi was assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to preside over the training and organization of the delegation to attend the exam.

Official results, all 4 participating students excellently won medals.

Two Gold Medals went to: Tran Trung Kien , 12th grade student, Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi, with 169.25 points;

Nguyen Ngo Duc , a 12th grade student at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An province, scored 151.05 points.

Silver Medal Award: Dinh Trong An , 12th grade student, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 149.70 points;

Tran Hoang Nam , 11th grade student, Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi - Silver Medal, scored 136.65 points.

4 students attended and won medals at the 59th Mendeleev International Chemistry Olympiad.

According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Mendeleev International Chemistry Olympiad is one of the most prestigious and challenging academic exams in the field of Chemistry for high school students, often referred to as "The most difficult Chemistry exam on the planet".

Participation in the exam aims to expand opportunities for international academic exchange, foster capacity and create conditions for many excellent students to participate in large-scale and high-quality academic activities.

In 2025, the Olympics will gather 192 contestants from 40 countries and territories, including countries with strong Chemistry education development such as China, Russia, Korea, Japan...

Candidates participated in 3 rounds of competition over 3 days. Rounds 1 and 2 were theoretical exams, while round 3 was practical. Each round lasted 5 hours. The Organizing Committee officially awarded prizes to 60% of the candidates, with the ratio of Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals being 1:2:3.

The goal of the exam is not only to test professional competence but also to discover and nurture young scientific talents and enhance exchange and cooperation between countries.

The outstanding achievements of the Vietnamese student delegation continue to affirm the capacity, intelligence and integration spirit of the Vietnamese student generation in the international arena.
