(ABO) On August 27, at the Center for Culture - Sports and Tourism of My Tho City, Tien Giang Province, the Tien Giang Mekong Lightning Orchid Club organized the 1st Mekong Open Orchid Competition in 2023.

The contest attracted 165 entries and hundreds of entries from artisans and orchid growers from provinces and cities such as Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Phuoc, Dong Thap, Can Tho City, Vinh Long, Ben Tre, Lam Dong, etc. The entries were meticulously cared for by artisans and gardeners, with beautiful flowers to compete in 3 categories: General Award, Dendrobium and Catleya.

Nguyen Duy Duc, Chairman of the Mekong Lightning Orchid Club, shared: The purpose of the contest is to promote the movement of growing artistic orchids in the province; attract many gardeners, orchid growers and visitors to enjoy the beauty of this flower, known as the "king of flowers". Orchids are a flower that many people love because they are not only beautiful, but also have high economic value. In addition, the Organizing Committee of the contest also hopes to create a common playground, a bridge for flower lovers to share experiences, help each other in buying and selling, and exchanging orchid products.

As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded 39 prizes, including First, Second, Third and Encouragement in all 3 categories to artisans and gardeners with excellent works at the contest. The First Prize in General went to artisan Huy Cuong (Vinh Long), the First Prize in Catleya went to Nguyen Phuc An Nhien (Ho Chi Minh City) and the First Prize in Dendrobium went to artisan Ho Van Hieu (Vinh Long).
