The book ' Quang Tri Memories' depicts the brutality of the 81 days and nights of the Quang Tri Citadel battle through the diaries and battlefield memoirs of two soldiers who directly confronted each other on two sides of the battle line.
On January 19, the National Political Publishing House Truth introduced the book Quang Tri Memories collected and compiled by writer, poet, journalist, and musician Nguyen Thuy Kha.
Poet Nguyen Thuy Kha shared that he has always been concerned with the topic of war. The book was completed in nearly a year, aiming at the spirit of national reconciliation.
"The work is like a sonata, with two contrasting themes but always complementing each other to create a spirit of harmony. If young people receive this book, go back in time to learn about the dedication and sacrifice of a generation, they will know how to live in the present. The price of national harmony is priceless," poet Nguyen Thuy Kha expressed.
At the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh - Deputy Director of the National Political Publishing House, Truth, shared that the book Quang Tri Memories depicted the brutality of the 81 days and nights of the Quang Tri Citadel battle through the diary pages and battlefield memoirs of two soldiers who directly confronted each other on two sides of the battle line.
Poet Nguyen Thuy Kha.
"When turning each page, each line of the narrative of one side is a liberation soldier of the Vietnam People's Army, and the other side is a marine soldier in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, readers will be able to compare, contrast, and feel the ambitions, goals, and ideals of the two soldiers. They are people of the same age, born in the same year, both are filled with nostalgia for their families and homeland, and have the aspirations of passionate youth, but on the two sides of the battle line, the goals of the two soldiers holding guns are completely different," said Mr. Binh.
Quang Tri Memories is perhaps the first book to place parallel diaries and memoirs of two soldiers on opposite sides of a long, arduous and fierce battle. This clearly shows the profound contrast between their purposes, responsibilities and actions of holding guns and fighting - representing two sides: justice and injustice; voluntary, devoted and forced, resigned; idealism and indifference; aspiration and hopelessness.
The Deputy Director of the National Political Publishing House, Truth, believes that Quang Tri Memories is a valuable document, providing readers with the most authentic view of a generation ready to sacrifice and dedicate their youth to the revolutionary ideal of liberating the country.
