On the evening of August 30, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Construction Tran Huu Bao said that immediately after the fire broke out at the car and motorbike parking lot at the foot of Vinh Tuy bridge (Hong Ha ward, Hanoi), the Department's specialized units went to the scene to inspect.
“On August 31, the Department will hold a meeting with the bridge management unit and the supervising consultant unit to listen to the report and evaluate the incident. Based on the inspection results, a specific assessment will be made, from which a solution will be proposed,” Mr. Bao informed.
Responding to the question of whether the fire affected the quality and structure of Vinh Tuy Bridge, the leader of a specialized unit affirmed: It is impossible to assess the level of impact after the incident with the naked eye.
"This matter must wait for experts and inspection units to evaluate," the leader added.
Mr. Bao also said that previously, the Department had sent a document to vehicle parking units requesting them to ensure fire prevention and fighting work.
Earlier, at around 12:15 on August 30, a large fire broke out at a car and motorbike parking lot at the foot of Vinh Tuy Bridge. By 2:00 p.m. the same day, the fire was extinguished by the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police of Hanoi City Police.
At the scene, it was estimated that hundreds of vehicles, including motorbikes and homemade three-wheelers, were burned to the frame. The vehicles were lined up in 5 rows, close together, stretching hundreds of meters. Due to the heat from the fire, the metal fence at the parking lot collapsed, and the bridge girders were covered in black smoke.
