In the morning, candidates of the 2018 program will take 2 optional exams, choosing from 12th grade subjects including: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic Education & Law, Information Technology, Technology.
Each subject has 48 exam codes, double the number before. Candidates are arranged in exam rooms by subject so that they do not have to move between exam shifts. In one session, candidates take 2 subjects, divided into 2 shifts, each shift can take all the elective subjects, depending on their wishes.
Each elective exam room can organize exams for many different subjects at the same time. When the exam papers for a subject are opened, all candidates in the room registering for that subject must take the exam immediately.
Meanwhile, candidates following the 2006 General Education Program still take two full sessions: morning exam for the combination (Natural Science /Social Science), afternoon exam for Foreign Language.
All of today's exams are multiple choice. In addition to multiple choice, there are also true-false and short answer tests.
An important note: Candidates for Geography according to the 2018 program are not allowed to bring Atlases into the exam room.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, this year, the whole country has 1,137,183 candidates registered to take the exam under the 2018 General Education Program and 24,951 candidates under the 2006 Program.
Statistical results show that the number of candidates choosing to take social subjects is higher than natural subjects.

Specifically, in addition to the two compulsory subjects of Literature (1,151,687 candidates) and Mathematics (1,145,449 candidates), among the elective subjects, History is the subject with the most registrations with 499,357 registrations (including 484,084 candidates under the 2018 General Education Program and 15,273 under the 2006 General Education Program).
Next is Geography with 494,081 candidates (479,585 according to the 2018 General Education Program, 14,496 according to the 2006 General Education Program);
English with 358,870 candidates (including 352,652 according to the 2018 General Education Program and 6,218 according to the 2006 General Education Program);
Physics (354,298 candidates), Economic and Legal Education (247,248 candidates - only applicable to the 2018 General Education Program), and Chemistry (246,700 candidates).
According to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, the exam scores will be announced on July 16. Candidates can register and adjust their university admission wishes from July 16 to 28.
The high school graduation exam is organized to properly assess the learning outcomes of learners according to the goals and requirements of the general education program. At the same time, the exam results are used to consider recognition of high school graduation, as one of the bases for assessing the quality of teaching and learning of general education/continuing education institutions and the direction of educational management agencies.
In addition, the high school graduation exam also provides reliable and honest data that accurately assesses students' abilities for universities and vocational education institutions to use in enrollment in a spirit of autonomy.
