More than 10 million Vietnamese people travel domestically during Tet, many places earn billions in revenue

According to data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism , during the Lunar New Year, from February 8 to February 14, the tourism industry nationwide is estimated to welcome and serve 10.5 million domestic visitors (an increase of 16.6% over the same period in 2023). Of which, there are about 3.5 million overnight visitors (an increase of 75% over the same period in 2023); the average room occupancy rate is estimated at about 45 - 50% at the tourist accommodation system (in particular, high-end 4 - 5 star tourist accommodation facilities in some key tourist localities have higher occupancy rates, concentrated on the 3rd and 4th days of Tet).

Below are the top 10 localities receiving the largest number of visitors and highest revenue during the Lunar New Year 2024. Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City is estimated to welcome 1.8 million visitors, up 5.9%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 6,550 billion, up 4% over the same period in 2023. Quang Ninh welcomed 803,570 visitors, up 56%. Hanoi welcomed 653,000 visitors, up 21.6%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 2,350 billion, up 35.1%. Thanh Hoa is estimated to welcome 635,000 visitors, up 48.7%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 588 billion, up 51.2%. Khanh Hoa is estimated to welcome 630,300 visitors, of which 191,000 visitors have stayed, up 25.8%; Total revenue from tourists is estimated at nearly 878 billion VND. Ba Ria-Vung Tau is estimated to welcome 592,650 visitors, up 36.0%; total revenue from tourists is over 409 billion VND, up 12.7%. Ninh Binh is estimated to welcome 580,000 visitors, up 46%. Tay Ninh is estimated to welcome 520,720 visitors, up 3.7%; total revenue from tourists is 376 billion VND, up 55%. Da Nang is estimated to welcome 402,000 visitors, up 37%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at about 1,580 billion VND. Quang Nam is estimated to welcome 305,000 visitors, up 35%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at about 1,580 billion VND. Kien Giang is estimated to welcome 270,230 visitors, up 26.4%; total revenue from tourists is 928 billion VND; Room occupancy rate reached 66.3%.
