More than 140 workers hospitalized after lunch, suspected of food poisoning

On the afternoon of June 27, the Viet-Tiep Friendship Hospital in Hai Phong and the International General Hospital confirmed that the unit had just received 142 emergency cases who were workers at the Song Cam Shipyard in An Hong Commune, An Duong District, Hai Phong City.

60 workers of Song Cam Shipyard suspected of food poisoning are being treated at Viet-Tiep Hospital in Hai Phong.

Specifically, at around 1:35 p.m. on June 27, more than 140 workers from the Song Cam Shipyard were admitted to the two hospitals in a state of nausea, dizziness, hot flashes, itching, numbness in the limbs, chest pain, and difficulty breathing...

Immediately after the incident, the Factory's leaders directly called the An Duong District Medical Center, reported to local authorities and relevant agencies for coordination in handling.

The workers were taken to the hospital by two 45-seat buses from Song Cam Shipyard.

According to information provided by hospitalized workers, today nearly 800 workers had lunch in the factory kitchen, the menu had many dishes including savory dishes such as braised mackerel with pickled cabbage and chicken.

However, about 30 minutes after eating, the workers who ate the braised mackerel with pickled cabbage dish experienced symptoms of numbness in their limbs, itching, chest pain, nausea, red skin... and were taken to the emergency room.

Some workers with mild symptoms were kept in chairs for observation.

As soon as the cases were admitted, the hospital doctors performed first aid. Mild cases were transferred to the treatment departments, their health was temporarily stable, there was no change in blood pressure, and no electrolyte disturbance.

Seven more complicated cases with severe anaphylactic symptoms are being actively treated by doctors.

Up to this point, the hospital has received over 60 cases of workers from Song Cam Shipyard for emergency treatment after the aforementioned lunch.

According to a representative of Song Cam Shipyard, the factory has signed a contract with Thanh Hung Company Limited in An Duong District, Hai Phong City to be the unit that processes and supplies food for workers.

Every day, there are nearly 800 meals prepared at the collective kitchen. Workers suspected of food poisoning will have their hospital fees and other benefits fully covered by the factory according to regulations.
