Viettel staff guide and support customers to convert 2G devices to 4G

As the network operator with the largest number of customers, Viettel currently has only about 4,000/400,000 2G customers who have not yet converted to 4G. Viettel Thua Thien Hue strives to complete the upgrade to 4G for the above subscribers by the end of September.

“3,700 phones will be given to vulnerable subscribers and we strive to complete the donation of the above devices by the end of September,” said Nguyen Huy Quang, Director of Viettel Province. The recipients of the phones are Viettel customers who are using devices that only support 2G (2G Only) but have not been able to switch to 4G, most of whom live in remote areas or are in difficult circumstances. Those who are eligible will receive a text message inviting them to a Viettel store or can proactively contact the network operator in the area for support.

Viettel gives 4G phones to disadvantaged people

Supported devices are 4G phones that meet basic calling needs or devices with additional cloud phone features to access OTT applications. The device has a keyboard, large speakers, and voice support feature when dialing numbers for older customers.

Previously, the Ministry of Information and Communications decided to stop 2G technology in September 2024 (after an extension to October 15, 2024) to promote people's access to 4G devices, to access the internet, thereby becoming familiar with digital services and online public services. The roadmap to cut 2G waves is also an important step forward, within the trend of technology development and digital transformation of the country.
