Pioneering AI training for teachers

In August 2025, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of An Giang province coordinated with Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV) to deploy the online course "AI in education" to more than 40,000 teachers from preschool to high school, vocational education - continuing education and secondary school.

This is the first province in the Mekong Delta to deploy comprehensive AI training for all teachers, not only meeting the immediate need for digital skills training, but also in line with the spirit of Resolution 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development and anticipating the Digital Competency Framework for Teachers that the Ministry of Education and Training is about to issue.

Teachers from schools in An Giang actively participate in the course "AI in education".

Mr. Nguyen Gia Dang - Head of the Department of Quality Management and Information Technology, Department of Education and Training of An Giang province shared: "The course has equipped teachers with general knowledge about AI, digital ethics, AI applications in the classroom, etc. The full and active participation of teachers shows a breakthrough in thinking and approach to technology. Teachers in An Giang province proactively approach AI tools early, quickly and proficiently, thanks to which the preparation of lectures is easier, more effective and students also have early access to technology right in the lectures of teachers."

Teachers understand their role in the AI era

Within just one month, nearly 90% of An Giang province teachers attended the course and successfully completed the final exam. But more importantly, the changes in awareness and teaching methods are of lasting value.

Mr. Huynh Ba Hieu - Teacher of Giong Rieng Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities (Giong Rieng) shared: “Early access to AI courses is important for the development of teachers' digital capacity and teaching quality. Teachers will have the opportunity to learn and apply technology in the classroom to have good, lively lectures and tests suitable for each student. Thanks to that, we can easily access new software and applications, contributing to improving the quality of individual teaching.”

When teachers apply AI effectively, it will help students learn more enthusiastically and creatively.

For Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam - Teacher at Ba Hon Secondary and High School (Kien Luong), the biggest change is not only the skill of using tools, but also the mindset: "After the course, the most obvious change is not that I know a few more AI tools, but that I have a 'compass' to orient myself in the digital world. I am more confident in embracing technology, but at the same time, I am more alert and responsible."

Mr. Nam was particularly impressed with the sample lesson “AI Bias” compiled by Common Sense Education: “This is a content that directly addresses a current and dangerous issue that few people realize. I realized that my task is not only to teach students how to use AI, but more importantly, to understand and criticize AI. The world that students are about to enter will be completely reshaped by AI. Teachers who understand AI will be the ones to equip students not only with the knowledge to use it, but also with the mindset to create and live with AI safely and ethically.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - Teacher at Duong To 2 Primary School (Phu Quoc) also recognized the obvious change: "Before, I only used a few familiar software. After the course, I confidently tried many new tools, knew how to use AI to prepare lessons, design questions, support students and pay attention to information security. Thanks to that, the lessons became more lively and students were more interested."

Meanwhile, Ms. Tran Ngoc Thuy - Teacher of Ba Hon Secondary and High School (Kien Luong) emphasized the long-term role of AI in developing pedagogical capacity: “Early access to AI courses is very meaningful for the development of teachers' digital capacity. First of all, teachers are equipped with modern digital thinking and skills, know how to choose and exploit AI tools correctly, safely and effectively. This helps me innovate teaching methods, personalize learning activities, design resources and assess students more flexibly. On the school side, the quality of teaching is significantly improved because teachers can create lively lectures, suitable for many students, and at the same time stimulate their self-study and digital thinking capacity.”

Sau khi tham gia khóa học, các giáo viên tự tin ứng dụng công nghệ vào giảng dạy.
After taking the course, teachers are confident in applying technology to teaching.

These experiences show that teachers not only learn how to use AI, but also understand their pioneering role: to lead students to learn, think, and live with AI safely and responsibly.

Prepare to get ahead with Khanmigo and the digital competency framework

Mr. Nguyen Gia Dang commented that the “AI in Education” course has helped teachers in An Giang province train two important groups of competencies: basic digital competencies to understand and use basic AI and improve self-learning ability; along with specialized digital competencies to apply AI to lesson design, create differentiated exercises and analyze student learning outcomes. “In the upcoming digital competency framework, there will be many specific groups of criteria. An Giang’s proactive early training will help teachers easily adapt to this new standard and be ready to meet the requirements of innovation,” said Mr. Dang.

Not only does the course cover knowledge, it also lays the foundation for teachers to be ready to adopt Khanmigo – an AI tool specifically for education developed by Khan Academy, which is expected to launch a free Vietnamese version for teachers in November 2025. With this preparation, An Giang province will become one of the localities with the greatest advantage in applying AI to teaching practice, thereby improving the digital capacity of the teaching staff and accompanying students in the AI era.

An Giang waves the flag to spread digital transformation in education across the country

Following the success of the “AI in Education” course for teachers, as planned, the An Giang Department of Education and Training will continue to advise the Provincial People's Committee to invest in IT infrastructure, expand in-depth training courses and coordinate with KAV to deploy Khanmigo in schools.

Mr. Nguyen Gia Dang shared: “An Giang not only wants to be a leader in the Mekong Delta region, but also wants to become a reference model for other localities. We believe that mastering technology will be a breakthrough for An Giang education to catch up with global trends.”

The “AI in Education” course has helped more than 40,000 teachers in An Giang province not only access new knowledge, but also change their thinking, clearly defining their role in the AI era. When teachers confidently apply AI, students learn more vividly, and the education sector has more basis to adjust policies.
