More than just a knowledge transmitter

Teachers not only impart knowledge, but also ignite passion, inspire, and accompany students on their journey to maturity.

As a dynamic young lecturer, Ms. Le Au Ngan Anh (30 years old), Deputy Head of the Faculty of Tourism - Restaurant - Hotel Management, Hoa Sen University, revealed that in her classes, she frequently incorporates games, real-life situations, role-playing, group discussions, etc., into her lectures.

Taking on multiple roles

Ms. Ngan Anh believes that humor and bursts of laughter in class are not simply for entertainment but also create a connection between teacher and students. "Without interaction, no matter how hard a lecturer tries to teach, it won't be effective," Ms. Ngan Anh concluded.

In this modern era, she believes that the role of teachers has expanded and become more closely intertwined with the younger generation. Teachers not only impart knowledge but also have the responsibility to accompany, listen to, and encourage their students, even after they have graduated.

Winning second prize at the 2025 Vocational Education Teacher Training Conference organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, Mr. Thai Van Huy (24 years old), a lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College, impressed with his novel and unique design. He affirmed that participating in skills competitions and teaching conferences is the best way for young lecturers to learn from colleagues and improve the quality of their teaching.

Sharing his reasons for choosing vocational education over higher education, Mr. Huy frankly stated that each educational environment has its own strengths. Although vocational teaching is demanding because the training program is 70% practical, it allows for more time to be close to and bond with students.

"Initially, I felt a little awkward addressing my students because of the close age difference. Then, I adjusted my thinking a bit. Instead of being a strict teacher, I became like an older brother, guiding the younger students into the profession. As a result, the students felt more confident sharing their aspirations, and their learning became easier," Mr. Huy said with a smile.

As an educator with over 20 years of experience in teaching, business consulting, and career guidance for students, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Thuy, Head of Admissions and Communications at the University of Banking Ho Chi Minh City, affirms that AI will not replace teachers. AI will only replace repetitive tasks, allowing teachers more time to focus on the most "human" aspects of teaching, such as guiding thinking, igniting passion, and inspiring students.

"This will create a strong interdisciplinary teaching team capable of developing, mastering, and innovating AI platforms. This is how lecturers can develop and elevate themselves in the era of rapidly developing digital technology ," Associate Professor Thuy affirmed.

A catalyst, accompanying young people.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), shared that in the digital age, teachers are not simply transmitters of knowledge, but also guides and catalysts for nurturing students' proactive learning spirit. The new era demands that teachers break free from old stereotypes, embrace the qualities of a "digital citizen," possessing the competence, mindset, and love for their profession to accompany the younger generation on their journey to conquer knowledge.

First and foremost, teachers must possess a solid foundation of knowledge. We cannot lead students with shaky legs. Specialized knowledge is the pillar, foreign languages are the key to unlocking the world, and technological competence is the tool that makes each lesson flexible, lively, and up-to-date. Today's students access global knowledge with just a few taps, so if teachers lag behind, they can easily be left behind. "I always hope that my team of teachers will cultivate a spirit of lifelong learning – not to keep up with students, but to inspire them to explore a world that is constantly changing," Mr. Phu believes.

Mr. Tran Minh Thanh, Deputy Principal of Minh Duc Secondary School (Cau Ong Lanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), said that in the digital age, the role of teachers has shifted from knowledge transmitters to guides, mentors, and inspirers. Teachers help students evaluate and process digital information, develop digital skills and critical thinking, and apply technology to teaching to improve quality and interactivity. They are no longer the sole source of knowledge but become guides helping students develop lifelong learning abilities. Only then can we inspire students positively on their challenging learning journey in the digital age.

The digital age presents teachers with many challenges but also serves as a driving force for self-improvement and self-development. According to Mr. Thanh, this requires teachers to be able to adapt quickly, proactively change to suit the digital educational environment, upgrade their technological skills, and improve their pedagogical methods. They must gradually and proficiently utilize digital educational platforms such as LMS, electronic gradebooks, digital learning materials, and online classes.

Mastering interactive tools, communication, and parent support through digital platforms. "Technology may change very quickly, but the heart of a teacher always remains the core value. Therefore, with determination and a spirit of continuous learning, our teaching staff can completely master the digital age, leading the school to further development and students to become more well-rounded," said Mr. Thanh.

Ms. Nghiem Que Nhi, a teacher at Phan Van Tri Primary School (Cau Ong Lanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), said that the age of artificial intelligence opens up many new opportunities for education, while also placing different demands on the role of teachers. Technology can support the analysis of learning data, personalize content, and provide rich learning resources; however, AI cannot completely replace the role of teachers – those who play a guiding, leading, and character-nurturing role for students.

With determination and a continuous learning spirit, our teaching staff can absolutely master the digital age.
