After implementing the arrangement of commune-level administrative units and operating the 2-level local government model, the 4 localities of Thach Ha, Thach Trung, Dong Mon and Ho Do were merged into Tran Phu ward. With an area of 29.5 km² and a population of more than 38,000 people, Tran Phu has both the bustling features of an urban area and the advantages of a suburban area favorable for agricultural production development.
Taking advantage of natural conditions, land space and market demand, in recent years, localities in the ward have formed many models of urban agriculture and high-tech agriculture, creating sustainable livelihoods for people, while contributing to shaping the direction of economic and service development associated with eco-tourism.

One of the typical models is Thanh Sen Youth Cooperative, established in 2021 on an area of over 4.3 hectares. Initially, the Cooperative only experimented with growing short-term organic vegetables. Thanks to the advantage of large land, convenient traffic connection with the urban center and stable market demand, the Cooperative quickly expanded its scale, diversifying production activities such as growing vegetables and fruits, Thai pear guava, Bang La apple, ornamental apricot trees, raising mud-free eels, raising civets... The model brings in about 3 billion VND in revenue each year, creating regular jobs for many local workers.
Sharing about the development direction of the cooperative, Mr. Dang Van Cuong - a member of Thanh Sen Youth Cooperative said: "Our model has many advantages in terms of production space, consumption sources and the ability to apply science and technology. In the coming time, we will continue to invest in modern machinery and technology to further improve the production and breeding process, aiming to build high-quality agricultural products for the market," said Mr. Cuong.

In addition, Mr. Le Hong Cuong's civet farming model is also a bright spot in urban agricultural development in Tran Phu ward. In 2021, after receiving permission from the authorities, Mr. Cuong began experimenting with breeding 12 pairs of civets and mink. Realizing that the cool climate, large land fund and quiet space of the suburbs are suitable for building barns, he boldly invested in expanding the scale.
After more than 5 years, his farm has grown to more than 370 minks, bringing in about 1 billion VND in revenue each year. “Finding the right direction and suitable for this land has opened up unexpected successes, helping my family have a stable and sustainable income,” Mr. Cuong shared.

In fact, Tran Phu ward possesses many favorable conditions to form urban and suburban agricultural production areas such as: large land fund, suitable ecological environment, abundant labor resources and especially the advantage of being located near the central area of the province. Many areas of garden land and agricultural land interspersed in residential areas have been flexibly converted by people to models of planting, raising livestock or combining experimental agriculture, bringing high economic value.
Developing suburban agriculture also opens up many clear advantages, becoming an important direction. Thanks to its proximity to densely populated areas, suburban agriculture can easily access large consumer markets, significantly reducing transportation costs and post-harvest losses, thereby improving the competitiveness of agricultural products. This is also an area with favorable conditions for applying high technology and digital transformation in production thanks to developed infrastructure and transportation.

In addition to direct production value, suburban agriculture also creates more motivation for experiential tourism, agricultural education, farmstay, etc., bringing new sources of income to people. Not only contributing to job creation and stabilizing life in suburban areas, agricultural belts also play an important role in landscape protection, ecological balance, and preserving the "green lungs" of urban areas. With these advantages, suburban agriculture increasingly affirms its role in sustainable urban economic development.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tran Phu Ward, Duong Dinh Phuc, said: "In the coming time, the locality will continue to promote its existing advantages to boost the development of urban agriculture, ecological agriculture in the suburbs and high-tech agriculture; upgrade key products, support people to expand the market; at the same time, exploit the ecological potential and geographical location to develop experiential tourism, culinary services and clean agricultural products business. The goal is to improve people's lives, build Tran Phu Ward into a modern and civilized development area while still preserving the identity of ecological urban agriculture."
