The 4th Cultural Industry Seminar with the theme "Effectively exploiting traditional and historical elements and values to develop Vietnam's cultural industry" organized by the Lao Dong Newspaper, held on November 19, achieved success with many practical contributions as well as providing effective solutions for current backlogs.

"The core" of Vietnamese people

Speaking at the seminar, journalist - Dr. To Dinh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, emphasized that in 2025, cultural and artistic activities in general will take place very vigorously, with high quality and achieve many impressive achievements both domestically and internationally. A common point that brings success is that works from music to cinema, theater... are closely linked to the exploitation of traditional and historical elements and values. Therefore, implementing the Prime Minister's conclusion at the National Conference on the development of Vietnam's cultural industries on December 22, 2023, in order to concretize strategic orientations, raise awareness, thinking and action on the development of cultural industries, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper continues to organize the 4th seminar in the series of seminars "Developing Vietnam's cultural industries".

Discussing the topic: "The effectiveness of recent art programs and entertainment products associated with historical and traditional elements and values", Meritorious Artist - Director Dang Thai Huyen used the film "Red Rain" as evidence of the success in exploiting historical elements. "The crew of the film "Red Rain" clearly portrayed the resilience and indomitability of the Vietnamese people. Through that, the work touched the audience's emotions, conveying pride when each person carries within them a part of the "core" of the Vietnamese people" - Meritorious Artist - Director Dang Thai Huyen said.

Actor Do Nhat Hoang said that the film "Red Rain" not only helped him get closer to the audience but also brought back memories and historical knowledge he had learned when he was in school. It was a journey for him to understand more deeply the resilient, indomitable spirit and the great values of national history. Actor Dinh Khang expressed that since participating in the film "Red Rain", his life and perception have changed a lot, especially his perspective on war and history.

Journalist - film critic Le Hong Lam added that for the cinema to develop and become a film industry, the most important thing is to be truly diverse. That diversity comes from cinema with many different topics. "The success of many recent films shows that the Vietnamese film industry has really taken shape. Of course, there are still failed films, but the increasing number of successful films and films reaching hundreds of billions is proof that the Vietnamese film industry is really on the rise" - journalist - film critic Le Hong Lam acknowledged.

Raising the bar for the Golden Apricot Award

In addition to cinema, other contents emphasized at the seminar were prioritizing the development of contemporary music and some traditional art forms to increase the experience value for the public, domestic and international tourists; improving the quality, quantity and scale of music and art performances, especially music festivals to meet market demand, gradually building a brand in the region and the world ; forming a public community that loves civilized art; artists who are responsible for their profession and have a sense of responsibility for creative products to honor Vietnamese cultural values.

According to the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries to 2030, with a vision to 2045, the target for 2030 specifically states: Cultural industries achieve an average growth rate of about 10%/year and contribute 7% of the country's GDP. Strive to have 5 to 10 national brands in key and focal cultural industries and affirm brand value in the international market.

With the potential and breakthrough development of culture and arts in 2025, many expect that the results of the 4th seminar will contribute positively to setting goals, solutions, and appropriate policies, identifying specific entertainment products to build the Vietnamese entertainment industry to continue to develop and develop sustainably, professionally, and internationally competitive.

Contributing to this strategy, Mr. To Dinh Tuan informed: "In early 2025, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper successfully organized the Art Program to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mai Vang Award and presented the 30th Mai Vang Award. Currently, Mai Vang is a cultural and artistic award with more than 30 years of history, voted by readers, almost the only one still maintained in Vietnam. We aim to build a project for Mai Vang to become a national award, becoming an important component of outstanding Vietnamese cultural and artistic activities."

The orientation of the Lao Dong Newspaper was supported and agreed upon by the delegates attending the discussion, because this is a prestigious cultural and artistic award and especially has a profound humanistic meaning through the programs "Mai Vang Tri An" and "Mai Vang Nhan Ai".

Mr. NGUYEN NGOC HOI , Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City:

Featured trends

Cultural traditions, historical values and national pride are the greatest source of creative inspiration and will be a prominent trend in the coming time.

In addition, there are three new potential cultural industries: software and video games, radio and television, and publishing. These are all fields that require creative content and have the ability to strongly promote Vietnamese culture to the world.

Associate Professor, Dr. NGUYEN THI MY LIEM , Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Music Association:

The important thing is how to renew ethnic materials.

Creativity in art lies in the way of making and renewing traditional materials. The role of the artist is therefore extremely important. The media plays a key role in the cultural industry. The discoveries and explorations of the music world can only truly spread when the media guides and creates the necessary "drop points".

Mr. NGUYEN HOANG HAI - Content Director of CGV Vietnam:

That's the difference

When participating in international film fairs, the question customers often ask is: What is the difference between Vietnamese films and those of other countries? The main difference is in traditional values, culture, and Vietnamese cultural and historical elements. In each part of the "Flip Side" series, director Ly Hai brings in a certain craft village, which the audience really likes. Vietnamese films today all incorporate cultural elements into the story and are mostly successful.

Cinema continues to receive good news

In late October 2025, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized Ho Chi Minh City as a "UNESCO Creative City of Cinema". This is the first "Cinema City" of Vietnam and Southeast Asia in the Creative Cities Network initiated by UNESCO in 2004.

In particular, among a series of films that have won big in terms of revenue, "Red Rain" by director Dang Thai Huyen stands out with nearly 714 billion VND in box office revenue. This is a record number, bringing the film to the top of the list of Vietnamese films with the highest box office revenue of all time. The work also conveys strong patriotism through the script, directing talent, and good acting of the young cast, who transform into soldiers who sacrificed their beautiful youth for the aspiration of peace and national independence.
