Ho Chi Minh City: Every teacher is a moral example

(NLDO)- Ho Chi Minh City builds a safe, disciplined, friendly, creative educational model, enhances career counseling, and says no to school violence.

On the morning of November 20, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh City Education and Training sector and the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day.

At the ceremony, Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuong, Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training, acknowledged the 50-year development journey of the Ho Chi Minh City education and training sector, coming later but moving forward, affirming its pioneering role in innovation and creativity.

The city's education and training sector has five bright spots: Improving people's knowledge, learning society and lifelong learning; improving human resource quality and nurturing talents, taking the lead in applying information technology and digital transformation, pioneering in making English the second language; comprehensive education of morality, intelligence and aesthetics for students, happy schools; effective socialization work, well received by the people; educating affection, spreading and responsibility to the community.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Training requested the City Education and Training sector to thoroughly implement Resolution 71 according to the direction of the City Party Committee in accordance with the characteristics, functions and tasks of the sector. Continue to innovate the management model, schools are not only the place to implement but also advise the Party Committee, People's Committee of wards and communes on education and training; promote digital transformation, apply modern technology and artificial intelligence in all educational activities. Build and develop a team of teachers so that teachers are a model of morality, a model of lifelong learning. Improve the quality of comprehensive education, towards making English the second language in schools. Build a safe, disciplined, friendly, creative educational model, focus on ethics, strengthen career counseling, say no to school violence.

"I propose that the Department of Education and Training advise the City People's Committee to soon issue an action plan to implement Resolution 71, fully exploit potential, promote the role of pioneering localities, and focus on key tasks to make the city's education sector make a breakthrough in the coming time," the leader of the Ministry of Education and Training emphasized.

At the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc acknowledged the special role of the education and training sector throughout the development process of the country and the city. "From the early days of the country's founding, President Ho Chi Minh identified fighting hunger, illiteracy, and foreign invaders as three key tasks, placing education at the key position of the national construction strategy. Forever remember and cherish the contributions of generations of teachers - those who have devoted their whole lives, even sacrificed their blood and bones for the cause of educating people" - the city leader emphasized.

Mr. Duoc affirmed that the patriotic emulation movement in the education and training sector, inheriting the ideology of President Ho Chi Minh, has brought about many outstanding marks, as evidenced by Ho Chi Minh City becoming a member of the UNESCO global network of learning cities in 2024. "That is the result of high political determination, the consensus of the Party Committee, government, people of the city and the dedication and devotion of the teaching staff," he said.

Looking back on the 50-year journey of the education and training sector, Mr. Duoc was moved to recall the days when the city was still facing many difficulties, when teachers turned makeshift classrooms into the first places to nurture knowledge. The next generations are deeply grateful for the silent sacrifices of previous generations of teachers. "Teachers are the source of intellectual nourishment, the solid pillars for the sustainable development of the city named after Uncle Ho" - the city leader emphasized.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Education and Training awarded certificates of merit to 9 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in activities of the education and training sector.
