Hong Diem shares about her new role in "The Border":
- This is the first time you play a "high-ranking" role as the Deputy Director of the Procuracy in a political film. What challenges do you face because the audience has long known you in the roles of women with families in psychological and romantic films?
Everything you asked was a concern because I have always been attached to the image of films about family themes and always had to face dramas and incidents in the family. I have never participated in any films about political topics, so this time I was curious and wanted to experience it.
I also want to diversify my role collection, but a positive role in a political film is usually dry, not to mention this is the first time I have played a role with a position on film. This is what makes me want to participate in The Border, but at the same time I have to struggle with the fact that the audience is too familiar with my image of playing a positive role in a familiar film genre, and this time playing a dry role, I have to overcome it. For me, each role is a fate, there are roles that I feel I cannot accept because I cannot arrange the time or for some other reason.

The role of Thu in The Border is a positive role, a straightforward and honest person in work, never compromising with wrongdoing. The times when I feel she is more real and softer are when the character is with her family and friends. But Thu's image with her family is not as gentle as before when Hong Diem used to play, but is somewhat rigid and strong because she is passionate about her work so sometimes she brings work home to do. That is also the reason for small conflicts in the family.
- The film marks the reunion between Hong Diem and Manh Truong after 8 years since "A lifetime of resentment". The audience wants to know what kind of characters they will play in "The Borderline", will they be in love or husband and wife like in the previous film?
When she reminded me, I realized that it had been a long time since Manh Truong and I had acted together because we still met and talked regularly. This time, I had the chance to meet Truong again, but not as a couple, but as friends from university. Normally, in real life, they are close and share stories about life and work, but because they are both people with positions, they have their own secrets and rules of the profession. My character is very passionate about work, so he absolutely does not share anything, although he is always enthusiastic about sharing and helping each other in life. At the end of the film, there are incidents and the two confront each other in their work positions.
- In this movie your character is married, so who will play Hong Diem's husband?
That's Ha Viet Dung! However, the film is mainly about work so there are very few scenes between husband and wife, when we talk we mainly argue because he works at the tax office. Ha Viet Dung and I acted together in Journey of Justice but at that time we only had 1-2 scenes together.

- Manh Truong teases you all the time on Facebook, so what about on set?
That's Truong's hobby! Truong doesn't only tease me when we're filming, he always does because Truong is very funny. On the set, not just me, but everyone he meets, Truong teases, even the director.
- You two are quite close in real life and often interact on your personal pages. Do you have any difficulty acting as friends or is it more difficult because you're still busy teasing each other?
In real life, we are close and happy, so it's easy to act as friends. Now, when we act like we're in love, we sometimes have to act like we're in love because we're usually "stubborn", so when we act like we're in love, we have to be more calculating.
- But now it's probably hard for two people to act like they're in love, right?
You mean we're out of date? How sad! That's my sadness! (laughs).

- This time Hong Diem has changed her role but I still want to see how Hong Diem plays a villain or a mistress. Have you ever imagined yourself playing such roles?
I used to think I would play the villain but I really haven't received any invitations. For example, in political films like The Border , the villain is very colorful and often better than the protagonist because the story is more interesting. Actually, when I first read the script, I wanted to change my image and ask for Huyen Trang's role, but the director probably had already decided in his mind about the actors he would choose, so I didn't have the opportunity.
