The opening report by Professor Jeong Eon Lee provided an overview of the current state of breast cancer treatment with impressive figures. Accordingly, in Korea, up to 80% of breast cancer cases are detected early in the DCIS stage, with a survival rate of up to 98-99%, while late detection cases (stage III, IV) account for a very low percentage. Regarding treatment, about 2/3 of patients receive breast-conserving surgery and 1/3 have to have their breasts removed. Notably, nearly 60% of patients who have their breasts removed are currently reconstructed immediately after surgery thanks to the cooperation of plastic surgeons.
