On the afternoon of November 19, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long visited, worked with and congratulated Hanoi Medical University on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20).

On behalf of the leadership of Hanoi Medical University, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Principal of the school, briefly reported the school's achievements and development orientation for the next stage.

Accordingly, over the past 5 years, the school has increased its training scale by 35.8%, from 11,700 to 16,000 students; the number of postgraduate students has also increased from 319 to 816 postgraduate students... these numbers demonstrate the high-level research and training capacity of the school with a glorious history, making important contributions to Vietnamese medicine.

The school has gradually affirmed its reputation and international integration. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025-2026, Hanoi Medical University is in the group from 801 to 1,200 globally and group 501 to 600 in the field of health sciences.

The school is aiming to be ranked in the top 100 best universities in Asia by 2035. According to the UPM ranking, Hanoi Medical University was recognized as achieving 5-star standards for the entire school in 2023; 2 training programs (General Practitioner and Master of Pharmacy) were ranked 5-star in 2025, affirming the international standard training quality and the reputation of the school in the region.

Another important highlight in the development of the school is the development of a system of practice hospitals, of which Hanoi Medical University Hospital is a typical example. Currently, the hospital is developing very well and has become a very reliable address for people to come for medical examination and treatment. The scale of Hanoi Medical University Hospital has increased from 500 to 800 beds and the Hoang Mai facility with a scale of 350 beds has been put into operation...

The school has also successfully implemented the second group of financial autonomy mechanisms, transparently and effectively, promoting internal resources and improving management capacity; investment in science and technology development and scientific research of the school has also doubled compared to 5 years ago...

Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu also proposed some specific contents. Accordingly, he proposed the Government, ministries, branches and localities to prioritize the allocation of investment capital from the budget in the period of 2026-2030 to implement the component projects approved under Decision No. 714/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister to build facilities, invest in institutes and research centers to modernize and develop medical technology, and build specialized technology centers.

Propose that the Government direct and assign the Ministry of Education and Training to consider building a special mechanism in health sector training, allowing Hanoi Medical University to convert to a university model in the new period; propose that the Government consider issuing regulations on funding for resident physician training; adjust policies on compensation, exemption and reduction of tuition fees for students of 6 majors (psychiatry, pathology, forensic medicine, tuberculosis, infectious diseases, emergency resuscitation)...

Speaking at the conclusion of the working session, on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20), Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long sent his best wishes to teachers, scientists, medical staff and all students.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that with a 123-year tradition of construction and development; being the only university in Vietnam to have fully participated in the two resistance wars against the nation's invasion; always leading in training human resources, high-quality experts and scientists for the health sector... shows that Hanoi Medical University is a prestigious university, both in terms of history, people and quantifiable results.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that in recent times, the Politburo has issued many important resolutions, from Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation to Resolution 71-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in education and training development; Resolution 72-NQ/TW on a number of breakthrough solutions, strengthening protection, care and improvement of people's health...; in the near future, the National Assembly is preparing to pass two Resolutions and the National Target Program on the fields of Health, Education and Training... which will open up many spaces, create conditions and opportunities for Hanoi Medical University to exploit policies well for strong development in the coming time.

In addition, the school needs to effectively implement the Project "Developing Hanoi Medical University into a national key university among the top in Asia" approved by the Prime Minister. In which, the school clearly defines the order of priorities, to make focused and key investments; promote cooperation, mobilize resources; effectively implement the model of linking training - research - medical examination and treatment; focus on investing in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation in hospitals; commercialize research...

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long also requested the two Ministries of Health and Education and Training to review mechanisms and policies to create conditions for Hanoi Medical University to develop more strongly, worthy of being the leading university in the health sector.
