On the morning of November 23, the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) held a ceremony to open Binh Trieu 1 Bridge on National Highway 13, passing through Binh Thanh and Hiep Binh Chanh wards. The project was completed one month ahead of schedule, recognizing the efforts to reduce traffic congestion at the northeastern gateway of the city.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vinh, Director of the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center, said that the project to raise the clearance of Binh Trieu 1 Bridge will start construction at the end of 2024, with a total investment of 133 billion VND. The entire 554m long bridge will be raised by 1m, contributing to clearing the waterway on the Saigon River, while ensuring road traffic safety.
During the period of banning cars from crossing the bridge from August 26th until now, the main roads such as National Highway 13, Pham Van Dong Avenue and Binh Trieu 2 Bridge have been continuously overloaded. Therefore, the reopening of Binh Trieu 1 Bridge has received great expectations from people who regularly travel through this area.
According to the traffic organization plan, Binh Trieu 1 bridge will serve the traffic flow from Hang Xanh intersection to Pham Van Dong and National Highway 13, while Binh Trieu 2 bridge will continue to handle the opposite traffic direction into the center via Dinh Bo Linh street.

Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction Tran Quang Lam assessed that completing the project earlier than expected would not only help resolve the prolonged traffic congestion but also create favorable conditions for implementing major traffic projects in the area.
In the coming time, the city will focus on accelerating the expansion of National Highway 13 - a strategic route connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the Binh Duong area (formerly). The project is expected to start construction at the end of 2026 and be completed in 2028, with a total investment of about VND 20,900 billion in the form of BOT, of which the Ho Chi Minh City budget contributes about VND 14,600 billion.

According to the plan, nearly 6km of National Highway 13 from Binh Trieu Bridge to Vinh Binh Bridge will be widened to 60m. The route includes 4 elevated lanes with a design speed of 80 km/h, along with parallel roads on both sides with 3 lanes on each side, with a maximum speed of 60 km/h. Two underpasses at the intersections of Binh Loi and Binh Phuoc will also be built to increase traffic capacity.
At the same time, the Department of Construction is preparing documents to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in December 2025 to request investment policies for two projects to expand Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Dinh Bo Linh streets.

Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street, from Hang Xanh to Binh Trieu 1 Bridge, 2km long, is expected to be widened to 30-40m and the Martyrs' Monument intersection will be built according to the roundabout and underpass plan. The project has a total investment of about 7,000 billion VND, of which the cost of site clearance accounts for 4,500 billion VND.
Dinh Bo Linh Street will also be expanded to 25m, and a new Binh Trieu Bridge will be built with 6 lanes and two sections, each 11.5m wide and 560m long. The total investment is more than 2,900 billion VND.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City will build Binh Trieu 3 bridge, complete the bridge-road network connecting from Hang Xanh intersection to Binh Phuoc bridge, increase traffic capacity and share the load for existing bridges.
