On November 24, the City Children's Hospital (HCMC) announced that it had just saved the life of a 6-year-old boy (residing in Tay Ninh province) in a tragic accident in August.

According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital, the patient is a baby named CNBL, in emergency with 80% of his body burned by gasoline.

Medical history revealed that at around 6am on August 17, the father (divorced) went to the rented room of BL and her three children, poured gasoline and set it on fire. Afterwards, BL and her sister were transferred to the City Children’s Hospital, while the father and mother were treated at another hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the time of admission, the child was lethargic, with burns all over his head, face, neck, torso, arms and legs, peeling skin, and a lot of coal dust stuck to him. His genitals were also burned, deeply damaged, skin abrasions in the groin area on both sides, and stiff swelling of his arms and legs.

The emergency team immediately performed endotracheal intubation to help the child breathe, treated shock, administered antibiotics, pain relief, and sedation. The patient was then transferred to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit with a diagnosis of 2nd-3rd degree burns covering 80% of the body surface, shock, and respiratory burns.

Doctors tried to actively treat the child, support breathing, support circulation, care for burns with high-quality biological gauze, and thorough nutrition. After that, the team coordinated with Cho Ray Hospital to perform an allogeneic skin graft (from a relative) for the child.

Currently, the patient is gradually recovering, receiving psychological examination and physical therapy to avoid scar contracture.

According to information from the City Children's Hospital, the child's father, mother and sister did not survive the tragic accident. The Social Work Department has called on benefactors to support the child's treatment and care costs.
