The conference took place in both in-person and online formats, bringing together about 500 delegates from central ministries, branches, National Assembly agencies, localities, research institutes, universities, businesses, cooperatives and international organizations, such as: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)...
Attending at the Tay Ninh province bridge were Deputy Directors of the Department of Agriculture and Environment: Tran Van Quy, Tran Khac Phuc and Truong Tan Dat, along with representatives of specialized agencies of the province's agriculture and environment sector.
The conference program includes two main parts: a plenary session in the morning and specialized sessions in the afternoon. At the plenary session, delegates were informed about the current situation and solutions for science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation; the orientation of the National Assembly and the Government for this field; and presentations from businesses, localities and vertical units.
The afternoon session was divided into four focus groups: Cultivation - Plant Protection - Forestry; Livestock - Veterinary - Aquaculture; Environment - Water Resources; Irrigation - Disaster Prevention and Control - Climate Change. Here, delegates discussed research directions, policy mechanisms, application of advanced technology, and promotion of commercialization of scientific products to serve industry development.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy emphasized that in the context of the agriculture and environment sector facing many challenges such as severe climate change, resource depletion and green growth pressure, traditional production models are no longer suitable. Therefore, to improve productivity, quality, added value of products and protect the living environment, the whole sector needs to innovate its thinking and take science and technology, digital transformation as the foundation for development.
Minister Do Duc Duy said that although the agriculture and environment sector has achieved some positive results in recent times such as deploying high-tech agriculture, applying sensors in environmental monitoring, building land and meteorological databases, etc., there is still much work to be done to achieve a "development breakthrough" as required by the Resolution. The Minister hopes that the conference will be a positive first step, promoting the process of realizing the major orientations in Resolution 57-NQ/TW into the practice of the agriculture and environment sector.
Within the framework of the conference, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment signed a cooperation document on science and technology development and innovation with the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Vietnam Construction Association. At the same time, the Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also signed a series of cooperation documents with businesses and industry associations.
Speaking at the conclusion of the morning session of the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien emphasized that this conference has created a strong change in public awareness of the role of science, technology and innovation; thanks to science and technology, Vietnam continues to maintain its position as one of the world's leading agricultural exporters.
