Mobilizing all resources to complete the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project

The 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is not only an energy infrastructure project but also a symbol of solidarity, determination and responsibility of the entire people.

With the synchronous participation of authorities at all levels, the practical support of youth volunteers and the consensus of the people, the project is expected to be completed on schedule, making an important contribution to sustainable development and national energy security.

Phu Tho province mobilizes all resources, commits to handing over the entire site before July 15, 2025

The 500 kV line passes through 18 communes of Phu Tho province, with 195 pole foundation locations. To date, all foundation locations have been handed over. However, the line corridor still has many problems that need to be resolved urgently, the construction progress is being accelerated to the maximum, the atmosphere of urgency is taking place throughout the province.

Column VT369 in Phu Ninh commune, Phu Tho province, is located on rice and vegetable fields on the banks of the Lo River. This is one of two columns crossing the river, 130m high, with each column weighing over 351 tons of steel.

Mr. Ho Ba Thang, a pole installer from a unit in the Central region who has just been reinforced to the project, said: "To solve the foundation of electric pole No. 369, the construction site had to pour hundreds of cubic meters of sand to create a foundation on weak soil. Currently, the construction site is organizing construction while urgently receiving all kinds of materials and equipment to proactively produce even when encountering bad weather."

At the working session on July 8, 2025 with Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and local authorities in the province, Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee, said that although Phu Tho has just started operating under a 2-level government model, the province has identified site clearance for the 500 kV line as a key task of the entire political system. All departments, branches and commune authorities with projects passing through will focus on resolving and removing obstacles quickly and promptly in the spirit of the Prime Minister's direction: clear work, clear people, clear time and clear results.

“The site clearance work has basically been completed. People agree and support the project. We are well aware that the 500 kV transmission line project not only serves the interests of national energy security but the project will also help Phu Tho a lot to improve transmission capacity to serve the development of industrial zones in the short and long term,” Mr. Dong emphasized.

EVN and the People's Committee of Phu Tho province agreed to hand over the entire route corridor before July 15, 2025 so that the construction unit can cut down trees, dismantle structures, pull wires and complete energization as planned on August 19, 2025.

“Therefore, the province has identified site clearance for the project as the most important political task in July. Departments, branches and localities must be highly focused and ready to work all weekend, only discuss work, not discuss backtracking,” affirmed the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Tho province.

The People's Committee of Phu Tho province also directed communes to mobilize and support people to harvest crops, relocate assets, and quickly approve remaining compensation plans. With a sense of urgency, the province is focusing on resolving existing problems, especially at points with problems related to resettlement and safety corridors.

Youth across the country contribute to construction, spreading volunteer spirit for key national projects

Along with the participation of authorities at all levels, young people across the country are also demonstrating their pioneering role in supporting the project's construction. On July 10, 2025, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union coordinated with EVN to organize the Launching Ceremony of the Peak Emulation Campaign to volunteer to support the construction of the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line.

In 31 communes where the route passes through, the Youth Union units have mobilized simultaneously, organizing youth teams to participate in clearing the route corridor, cutting down trees, and supporting the mobilization of people to hand over the land. Each commune takes on at least two columns in the emulation campaign. More than 100 youth union members were mobilized from universities and colleges to the locality to support the cleaning and clearance of the corridor with a total area of up to 8,000 m2.

Propaganda activities about the project's significance were also widely deployed through the Youth Union's communication system and digital platforms, helping to raise awareness, create consensus and support in the community.

With the determination of the local government, the joint support of the youth of the whole country, and the consensus of the people, after only 4 months of launching, 93% of the work volume of a giant project with a 229.5 km long line with 468 pole positions and land to be cleared for pole positions is over 63 hectares. Along with that, it is necessary to ensure the lives of 2,189 households after the land is allocated to have new housing. The project alone requires 45,000 m3 of concrete to be poured and receives 57,000 tons of steel poles for the entire line.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Bui Phuong Nam - Director of Power Project 1 Management Board said that the project has received attention, support and assistance from local authorities where the power line passes. The people agreed so they volunteered to hand over the land early. By July 10, over 229.5 km of pole foundations had been poured, pole installation continued and wire pulling was prepared.

Mr. Nam said that nearly 100% of the column foundations have been completed, many anchor points have begun to be pulled for the wires, this stage must be done by professional workers. With the current urgent progress, the bidding packages have almost no repetition coefficient, each place has a construction team to keep up, which is quite risky. "To turn on the power on August 19, we are very determined, we must finish before August 15 to have a few days to check, adjust, and combine with site clearance in case there are still people in the discharge corridor area. We will strive to basically complete the project according to the schedule assigned by the Prime Minister", Mr. Nam affirmed.
