Celebrating the 68th anniversary of the first daily issue of Hanoi Moi Newspaper (October 24, 1957 - October 24, 2025)

After 68 years of accompanying the development of the country and the thousand-year-old capital, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has always affirmed its position as the main press agency of Hanoi, the pioneering Party newspaper in the flow of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism.

With more than 20,300 daily issues reaching readers, Hanoi Moi Newspaper is constantly innovating, creating, truthfully reflecting the breath of life, orienting public opinion; worthy of the responsibility of being the voice of the Party Committee, government and people of the Capital. In the digital age, the strong and methodical transformation journey of Hanoi Moi Newspaper continues to demonstrate the aspirations of a Capital newspaper - steadfast, rich in intelligence, always "going ahead, paving the way" in the process of building a modern, humane revolutionary press.

The Heroic Journey of the Capital Party Newspaper

After the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954), in the context of Hanoi entering the period of construction, the Hanoi Party Committee realized the need for a daily newspaper that would be the official voice of the Party Committee, reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the people and propagating the revolutionary line. Resolution No. 93-DBHN, dated February 26, 1957 of the Party Committee opened that important first step. Only 8 months later, on October 24, 1957, the Capital Newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Hanoi Party Committee, officially introduced itself to readers with its first daily issue.

The newspaper was especially honored to be named twice by President Ho Chi Minh . The first time, on January 1, 1959, when the two agencies of Thu Do Newspaper and Ha Noi Newspaper merged, Uncle Ho named the newspaper Thu Do Ha Noi. The second time, on January 25, 1968, after Thu Do Ha Noi Newspaper merged with Thoi Moi Newspaper, he named it Ha Noi Moi - a simple but sacred name, attached throughout the development journey of the newspaper and becoming a source of pride in the history of Vietnam's revolutionary press.

On August 1, 2008, implementing Resolution No. 15/2008/QH12 of the 12th National Assembly on "Adjusting the administrative boundaries of Hanoi city", Hanoi Moi Newspaper and Ha Tay Newspaper merged into a "common home". Since then, generations of cadres, reporters, editors, and employees of the agency, carrying the cultural nuances of Thang Long - Xu Doai and many other regions, have together continued the mission of "pioneering" of the capital's press.

Journalist Dac Huu, former Editor-in-Chief of Ha Tay Newspaper, shared: "Hanoi Moi is a luxurious, mature and impressive newspaper in both content and form. Since the first daily issue was published (October 24, 1957) until now, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has always persistently conveyed hot and valuable news to readers. From the fires of war to the period of peace, unification, innovation and international integration, the newspaper has become a close friend of many generations of Hanoians, truly reflecting the pace of life and the spirit of progress of the Heroic Capital.

With very proud achievements, the collective of cadres, reporters, and editors of Hanoi Moi Newspaper through the periods have been awarded by the Party and the State with the Ho Chi Minh Medal, the First Class Independence Medal, the First Class Labor Medal and many other noble awards. In particular, on April 16, 2014, Hanoi Moi Newspaper was honored to become the first local Party newspaper in the country to be awarded the title of Labor Hero.

Formerly the leader of the Capital's Party newspaper, journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, former Head of the Hanoi Party Committee's Propaganda Department, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, shared: "In just 2 years, the newspaper will reach the 70-year milestone. I believe that my colleagues at Hanoi Moi will continue to show their love for Hanoi, through their work, to contribute to building the newspaper to develop more and more towards becoming a multimedia press agency, a newspaper that is truly the cultural face of the Capital, serving the cause of building a cultured, civilized, and modern Hanoi."

Shine bright in the digital age

For the past 68 years, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has always “lived with Hanoi, written about Hanoi and constantly innovated for Hanoi”. On each page of the newspaper is the breath of life - the heartbeat of a resilient, humane and modern Capital. The newspaper is not only an official information channel, but also a “diary of the Capital’s heart”, recording each step of Hanoi’s transformation through historical periods.

Hanoi Moi Newspaper has always maintained its role as the main press agency of the Party Committee, government and people of the Capital - a local newspaper but of national stature. As journalist Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association noted: “The 68-year journey of Hanoi Moi Newspaper has proven its very important position and role. I believe that Hanoi Moi - a newspaper of the Capital, also the leading newspaper in the Party newspaper system of the whole country, will continue to make positive contributions to the overall development of Vietnam's revolutionary press in the coming time”.

In the digital age, the Capital and the whole country are determined to build a digital government, digital economy and digital society. Journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Party Secretary and Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, said that Hanoi Moi Newspaper has proactively transformed digitally, improved content quality, and applied modern technology in production - distribution - interaction. The newspaper has built a converged newsroom model, applied technology to the modern journalism process; promoted the production of multimedia content such as videos, infographics, megastories, e-magazines, podcasts; built its own digital platform, and at the same time spread information through social networks, aiming to bring information and activities of the Capital and the country quickly, strongly and vividly to modern readers. Hanoi Moi Newspaper also organizes special pages and columns according to "hot" topics, closely following the breath of political and social life of the Capital to orient public opinion; and reflects the thoughts and aspirations of the people in a timely and accurate manner; Contribute practical solutions to the cause of construction and development of the capital and the country.

Along with that, journalist Nguyen Minh Duc said, implementing Resolution No. 18-NQ/TU of the Party Central Committee, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has built and deployed a project to merge and streamline the apparatus, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations. From the initial 17 units, the organizational structure has been rearranged to 13 units and is continuing to complete the project to streamline to 11 units to submit to the City Party Committee.

Towards the 70-year milestone, according to journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has identified a number of key tasks. That is to continue to innovate propaganda content, associated with innovation in professional activities to successfully fulfill the role of the capital's key press agency. Along with that is the implementation of the Digital Transformation Project after being approved, focusing on the fields of administration, digitization, application of artificial intelligence (AI) and equipment modernization. The newspaper also aims to improve the efficiency of journalism economy, diversify revenue sources through organizing events and large-scale communication programs. In addition, the newspaper focuses on organization and personnel work; training digital journalism human resources; strict internal management, building order and discipline.

In particular, Hanoi Moi Newspaper focuses on implementing three breakthroughs. First, improving the quality of human resources, building a streamlined and strong apparatus, training a team of multimedia journalists, meeting the requirements of digital journalism development. Second, organizing large-scale communication programs associated with the city's political tasks; expanding press economic activities, developing online advertising, self-publishing printed newspapers and operating the Compassionate Heart Fund in a professional manner. Third, completing investment in building a new headquarters, modern equipment for operations, administration, production and publishing, and effectively implementing the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Digital Transformation Project until 2030.

Acknowledging the contributions of Hanoi Moi Newspaper over the past 68 years, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh affirmed that as an agency of the Hanoi Party Committee, the voice of the Party Committee, the government and the people of the Capital, Hanoi Moi Newspaper always maintains its principles and purposes, closely follows reality, and successfully completes its assigned political tasks. Generations of cadres, reporters, editors and workers of the newspaper have worked hard to build the brand of a newspaper rich in tradition, with its own identity, a prestigious voice in the hearts of readers, making an important contribution to the overall development of the Capital and the country.

Comrade Tran Sy Thanh emphasized that in the context of deep integration and comprehensive digital transformation, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has demonstrated the pioneering role of the local Party newspaper, both as a bridge to convey policies and guidelines, and as a source of inspiration and motivation to spread trust and aspirations for development. The Chairman of the City People's Committee hopes that the collective of Hanoi Moi Newspaper will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, creativity and exemplary performance of political tasks; constantly innovate content and methods of journalism, master new technologies to improve the quality of information and propaganda, worthy of the trust of the Party Committee, government and people of the Capital.
