Liao Tu promotes potential and strengths in tourism development and agricultural economy

Cooperatives of Lieu Tu commune signed a contract "Cooperation in investing in the production of high-quality, organic rice" with Toan Cau Organic Clean Agriculture Company Limited.

In early October 2025, 3 cooperatives of Lieu Tu commune signed a contract "Cooperation in investment in the production of high-quality, organic rice" with Toan Cau Organic Clean Agriculture Company Limited. According to the signed content, the enterprise will preside over the project, 107 members of Agricultural Cooperative 1-5, Agricultural Cooperative 30-4 and the cooperative will participate in the production of ST25 rice in an organic direction on an area of nearly 160 hectares with consulting support from experts and scientists of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture. The project will start from the winter-spring rice crop this year and continue with the crops in the next 2 years. The estimated capital to implement the project is about 10 billion VND.

Previously, in August 2025, the People's Committee of Lieu Tu commune signed a memorandum of understanding with Toan Cau Organic Clean Agriculture Company Limited to implement the "Smart Organic Agriculture Model" in the locality. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lieu Tu commune, the locality has strengths in agriculture, with an agricultural production area of more than 5,300 hectares, annual rice output reaching over 66,000 tons. Implementing the "Smart Organic Agriculture Model", the locality will focus on developing organic rice and organic shrimp farming (can combine rice - shrimp) to create safe products, meeting standards, aiming for export. The company has conducted surveys on rice and shrimp production areas, planned to provide seeds, organic materials, biological products, support capital, transfer technology and organize training for farmers, purchase products at agreed prices, and committed to insuring weather parameters for both rice and shrimp, minimizing risks due to climate change, aiming for a profit of 70-80 million VND/ha.

“This is not only an economic project, but also a journey to build the Lieu Tu organic rice brand, making the locality a national model of sustainable and modern agriculture. Lieu Tu aims to have at least 40% of the rice area produced according to organic standards by 2030, gradually and effectively implementing the policy of linking 4 parties - the State, farmers, scientists and businesses" - Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen added.

In addition to the smart organic agricultural production project, Lieu Tu also connects with businesses to implement an agricultural tourism project. Accordingly, at the end of September 2025, the People's Committee of Lieu Tu commune signed a memorandum of understanding with Minh Long Investment, Development and Logistics Company Limited to implement the project of building a rice mill and sign a land lease contract to implement the Green Rice - ST25 experience agricultural tourism project. According to the signed content, the business will build the GreenRice project - combining green agriculture, community tourism, experience and preservation of Khmer culture.

The GreenRice project is expected to create new jobs for 300-500 direct and indirect workers, while increasing farmers' income by 30-50% through the sale of tourism products, homestays and handicrafts, while promoting logistics, culinary, trade and transportation services. The rice processing factory project is invested on a total area of 1.5-2 hectares, with a modern production line with a capacity of 20,000 tons of rice/year (equivalent to 1,600 tons/month) with a total estimated investment of 40-50 billion VND.

To facilitate the project's implementation, the local government organized meetings, informed and mobilized households in the area who were eligible to participate in the project. Mr. Ly Na, one of the residents participating in the project to lease land to the enterprise for tourism purposes, shared: "We support the implementation of these projects because we see many practical benefits. The project will contribute to changing the lives of people in the countryside, creating job opportunities, helping people have more income. During the project's implementation until its operation, farmers in the leased land area will continue to cultivate rice. The enterprise also sponsored the construction of concrete roads in Xom Ray area, Bung Triet hamlet and the construction of concrete bridges in Xom Dien, Tong Cang hamlet and the concrete bridge Kenh Khu 3, Tra Ong hamlet".

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duy, Secretary of the Party Committee of Lieu Tu commune, said that thanks to the efforts of local leaders, projects were urgently called for and implemented within just 3 months of implementing the 2-level local government. Lieu Tu has a dense canal system, fertile land suitable for agricultural development and aquaculture, and developing ST25 rice growing areas. There are also Khmer pagodas with beautiful architecture, typical of preserving the profound spiritual and religious values of ethnic minorities... these potentials and strengths of Lieu Tu have attracted the attention and investment of businesses. The strategic goal of the projects is to develop Lieu Tu into Can Tho's first international agricultural tourism destination, diversify people's income, increase the value of ST25 rice, and complete the goal of making the agricultural economy the main economy of the commune in the 2025-2030 term.
