According to the Phu Tho Provincial Military Command, this is one of the largest bombs ever discovered in the area in recent years, posing a particularly dangerous risk if not handled promptly.

Upon receiving information from the people, the Phu Tho Provincial Military Command promptly deployed engineering forces and related units to the scene. The military forces coordinated with the police and Thanh Mieu ward authorities to cordon off the area, put up warning signs, and regulate waterway and road traffic through the Viet Tri bridge area. At the same time, the authorities developed a plan to salvage and destroy the bomb to ensure public safety.

On November 24, the bomb was transported from Thanh Mieu ward to the training ground in Tan Hoa ward for absolutely safe detonation.
Previously, on November 17, 2025, residents of Hong Ha 2 area, Thanh Mieu ward discovered a bomb lying deep underwater near Viet Tri bridge and brought it to shore. Immediately after receiving the information, the engineering force of the Provincial Military Command was present at the scene and determined that this was the remaining part of an M118 bomb that remained from the war.

The remaining part of the bomb is about 2m long, about 60cm in diameter, weighs about 1.2 tons, and contains about 1 ton of tritonal explosive. This is a type of bomb with great destructive power used by the US Air Force to destroy structures, causing damage to people and vehicles on the ground.

The M118 bomb consists of a bomb body, a bomb tail and a fuse. Initial surveys show that the bomb still has a fuse and has not been affected by water or external collisions. Therefore, the danger level is assessed as very high, directly threatening the safety of people and vehicles passing through the area.
