Ke Ninh suspension bridge in Chau Hanh commune, Quy Chau district suddenly collapsed at noon on March 6. This is the largest suspension bridge in this mountainous district, fortunately there were no people passing by in this area at the time of the incident. The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the bridge collapse.

According to the reporter, after the incident, many people in Quy Chau district gathered at the scene to monitor the incident. What is worrying is that the remaining parts of the bridge, although not yet fallen, are not safe because the bridge has been degraded and damaged before.
Specifically, the two ends of the bridge in Ke Ninh and Hanh Tien villages still have about 30m of bridge on each side that has not fallen down. However, these areas are potentially risky and can collapse at any time. Despite direct warnings from the authorities, many people still risked stepping outside to observe the collapsed section of the bridge.

Besides, below the alluvial land, the collapsed bridge area is littered with bricks and stones, many steel bars, and loose nails, posing a potential danger. However, some people still go down to watch and graze cattle in this area.
Mr. Vi The Long - Chairman of Chau Hanh People's Committee said: After the incident, many curious people flocked to the scene. We have set up barriers and installed signs prohibiting people from passing through this area, especially on both sides of the bridge, although it has not collapsed yet, it is not safe because this bridge has been degraded before, the risk of further collapse is present.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung - Head of the Economic Infrastructure Department of Quy Chau district said: Before this incident, Nghe An province had a plan to support Quy Chau district to repair and reinforce the bridge pier with a budget of about 2 billion VND. Accordingly, the unit was also preparing materials and machinery to start construction when the bridge suddenly collapsed. Therefore, the bridge upgrade was also temporarily suspended.
After the incident, the district authorities are focusing on protecting the scene while waiting for specialized agencies to investigate and specifically assess the cause of the incident. Afterwards, the district will also have a plan to clean up the scene, focusing on clearing the bridge parts lying on the riverbed to ensure safety as well as the flow of water. During this time, people are strictly prohibited from passing through the scene to ensure safety, not only roads but also fishing boats of people on Hieu River are not allowed to come to this area.

“Currently, there are 5 suspension bridges in Quy Chau district. Besides the collapsed Ke Ninh suspension bridge in Chau Hanh commune, there are other smaller suspension bridges in Dien Lam and Chau Hoan communes. Currently, the district has also assessed the safety of the remaining bridges to have a solution to avoid similar incidents,” Mr. Hung added./.
