Tam Nong district promotes achievements, develops faster in a sustainable direction

Reporter (PV) : Tam Nong district used to be a heavily acidic land, many people considered it the "flood center" of Dong Thap Muoi, so it faced many difficulties in socio -economic development. Could you please review some of the district's outstanding achievements over the past 40 years?

Comrade Huynh Thanh Son : As we know, Tam Nong is a geographically extremely difficult locality, so in the early days of re-establishing the district, with a sense of responsibility to the Party and the People, the District Party Committee urgently arranged and stabilized the staff apparatus, while implementing the tasks of socio-economic development, security and defense... The district focused on directing the implementation of land adjustment work, associated with the organization of production solidarity groups, production groups, and cooperatives. From this adjustment, the whole district has developed quite rapidly, from 49 production groups in 1982 to 206 production groups, 2 production groups and 2 cooperatives, bringing 92% of the cultivated area into collective farming. Initially, short-term industrial crops were developed, and crops were rotated on rice fields, while agricultural production was combined with family livestock development and household economic development.

The district pays attention to irrigation work with the motto "The State and the People work together". The district has mobilized labor to dig and dredge irrigation canals to serve irrigation for production with a series of irrigation works being built such as: 2/9 canal, Khang Chien canal, Ranh canal, Tan Cong Sinh canal 1,2, Phu Thanh canal, Lung Bong canal, Ca Dam canal, My Hoa canal...

In addition, the district focuses on consolidating and expanding state-owned facilities such as brick factories, ice factories, mechanical workshops, soy sauce factories, fish sauce factories, forest product processing factories, etc. Regarding rural transportation combined with irrigation, the district pays attention to implementing, focusing on developing internal irrigation to serve production.

Thanks to its dynamism, in a short time, Tam Nong has generated hundreds of millions of dong in profits from trading services. The door to solving difficulties has opened, the district has drawn up a planning diagram, built initial infrastructure, and created a new face in remote areas.

To have Tam Nong as it is today, we cannot help but mention Directive 19 of the Secretariat, Resolution No. 154/HDBT dated December 14, 1983 of the Council of Ministers (now the Government). After receiving the above Directive and Resolution, Tam Nong District Party Committee thoroughly grasped and focused on directing implementation, from which the work of land adjustment, the work of exploiting Dong Thap Muoi associated with the organization of production solidarity groups, production groups, and cooperatives was quickly carried out. By the end of 1985, Tam Nong had basically completed the work of agricultural reform, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee.

In the following stages, policies on restructuring the agricultural sector, building new rural areas, sending workers to work abroad under contracts, digital transformation... have been and are being effectively implemented in the locality, contributing to socio-economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Reporter : It is known that Tam Nong is one of the localities that has achieved many results in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development and the Agricultural Restructuring Project. Could you please share the highlights of the district when implementing this major program and project?

Comrade Huynh Thanh Son : Implementing the Resolution of the Provincial Party Committee, Tam Nong district, together with other localities, is carrying out the task of building new rural areas and restructuring the agricultural sector. Up to now, Tam Nong has achieved new rural standards in 10/11 communes; striving to achieve new rural district standards by 2025. Tam Nong has chosen 4 key points to build new rural areas, which are:

Firstly , complete the traffic infrastructure system. Since 2012, Tam Nong has socialized 48 rural bridges, worth more than 21 billion VND; solidified more than 73km of traffic roads, worth over 60 billion VND, creating favorable conditions for people to travel and trade goods.

Second , increase income for people. The district has focused on supporting the conversion of more than 45 models in agriculture; the area of large fields in 2022 is 67,386 hectares, accounting for 120% of the plan; the area from 2 crops to 3 crops is about 12,000 hectares. In addition, the district always pays attention to sending workers to work abroad for a limited period under contracts. From 2010 to now, the whole district has 1,402 workers going abroad, the amount of money sent home to their families is more than 900 billion VND; introducing jobs for 40,000 workers at companies and enterprises in and outside the province; opening 308 vocational training classes for rural workers, with 16,000 students participating in vocational training. The average income per capita is currently estimated at 56.9 million VND.

Third, speed up the progress of building schools that meet national standards. In 2010, the district had 2/58 schools that met national standards, but now there are 28/48 schools that meet national standards, creating very good conditions for children to study.

Fourth , there is a roadmap for building and renovating traditional markets. In 2010, the district had two basically completed markets, Tram Chim market and An Long market. Up to now, 8 markets (including Tram Chim and An Long markets) have been upgraded and expanded to ensure the safety of people's trade.

PV : To promote efficiency and strengths, helping the locality develop prosperously and sustainably in the next stages, could you please tell us about the district's strategic orientations?

Comrade Huynh Thanh Son : To further develop Tam Nong, the Tam Nong Party Committee will focus on the following key tasks:

Firstly , continue to develop agriculture in a modern direction. The district is interested in maintaining the area of fruit trees and developing the farming of aquatic products with high economic value in places with conditions; implementing many forms of cooperation and linkage according to the value chain, encouraging land accumulation to form concentrated production areas; implementing the National Target Program on new rural construction according to the defined roadmap.

Second , promote investment promotion, apply and fully implement policies and mechanisms, promptly remove difficulties for enterprises investing in agriculture and rural areas. The locality has effectively implemented key projects such as: the Square combined with the district's cultural - sports - service park, the urban area south of Vo Van Kiet Street, the new urban area of Tam Nong market, the new urban area of An Long, the new An Long market; continue to speed up the construction progress of the dike system project to respond to climate change and protect the lives of people in Tram Chim town.

Third , encourage the start-up movement, promote the spirit of innovation, creativity and the will to rise up; continue to promote the image, build brands and trademarks of typical local products; regularly meet and contact businesses to understand their needs, coordinate to remove difficulties and obstacles to deploy investment activities to develop trade and services in the area.

Fourth , promote and introduce the image of Tam Nong district and Dong Thap province through tourism associated with cultural and sports activities; focus on developing and improving the quality of mass sports, focusing on investing in developing physical education and school sports as a foundation for developing high-performance sports. We are very interested in improving the quality of teaching and learning, preventing dropouts; implementing well the national standard school program; taking care of families with preferential policies, people with revolutionary contributions, creating job opportunities for the poor and families with preferential policies to stabilize income.

Fifth , effectively implement the tasks of local defense and military work; strengthen the Party's leadership over internal affairs and the prevention and fight against corruption and waste; improve and enhance the quality and effectiveness of the activities of People's Councils at all levels. At the same time, build a friendly government, operate dynamically, manage effectively, and be responsible to the people; promote mass mobilization work, promote the role of the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations in participating in the implementation of local political tasks, identifying this as one of the important tasks and performing it regularly.

Sixth , build a strong and comprehensive Party organization, focusing on improving the leadership and direction capacity of Party committees, the moral qualities, lifestyles, and responsibilities of cadres and Party members; deploy and effectively implement the Resolutions of Party committees and organizations; regularly carry out self-criticism and criticism in the spirit of the 4th Central Resolution of the 12th and 13th terms on strengthening Party building and rectification; prevent and repel the degradation of political ideology, morality, lifestyle, and manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the Party, associated with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style.
