(Dan Tri) - This will probably be the rarest SUV model in the history of the Korean car brand; even rarer than some supercars.
The car is named after the largest active volcano on earth (Photo: Hyundai).
Mauna Loa is the name of the world's largest active volcano, located in Hawaii. Hyundai also took inspiration from this land when choosing the Mirage Blue paint for the body, along with Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires.
Fat tires measuring 205/65 R16 are combined with matte black rims provided by Weds. Thus, this set of wheels is smaller than the standard 17-inch type with 215/60 R17 tires. The rims have a rugged design commonly found on off-road vehicles.
To add a rugged look to the small SUV, Hyundai used black plastic front bumpers and side skirts, making the Kona Mauna Loa look like a basic model from the 90s, similar in style to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT.
However, while cars of that era had unpainted plastic bumpers, Hyundai opted for scratch-resistant paint for the Kona's front bumper.
Completing the off-road styling are four-wheel fender flares, black detailing on the glass, accent badges, and a standard roof rack for added practicality.
Inside, Hyundai installed easy-to-clean floor mats and a rubberized luggage compartment mat. Like the exterior, the interior is also predominantly blue, but with some striking neon yellow accents.
Although the Kona Mauna Loa is aimed at an outdoorsy crowd, Hyundai opted for leather upholstery instead of fabric. It also comes with a number of outdoor accessories, including folding seats, front seatback storage pockets, and two plastic storage boxes of varying sizes.
Hyundai will produce only 30 Kona Mauna Loa for the Japanese market, and sell them for 4.95 million yen, equivalent to 32,500 USD, about 2,800 USD more expensive than the pure electric Kona Voyage. The special version Mauna Loa uses a larger battery pack - 64.8kWh, enough for the car to travel 540km after each full charge.
