Disney spared no expense in flying top executives, including Bob Iger and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, to the South of France to film the James Mangold-directed action film starring Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The Cannes Film Festival audience welcomed the latest Indiana Jones adventure starring Harrison Ford with a five-minute standing ovation as a polite compliment to the film crew.

Regardless of how audiences felt about the film, the biggest cheers of the night went to Harrison Ford. The actor appeared on the red carpet with his wife Calista Flockhart. The announcer introduced the duo as "Indiana Jones and Calista Flockhart."

Harrison Ford received a proper movie star welcome, as thousands of fans chanted his name and the audience at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès jumped up and down as he entered the theater.

Harrison Ford was invited on stage by Cannes Film Festival Director Thierry Frémaux to receive the honorary Palme d'Or after a series of his most famous roles from Star Wars to The Fugitive, Indiana Jones ...

"I'm very touched by this," the actor said. "Someone once said that when you're about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes. My career today is thanks to my lovely wife, who supports my passion and dreams, and I'm very grateful for that."

Harrison Ford then addressed the audience: "I love you too. But I have a movie you should see. It's right behind me. So let me get out of your way and thank you again for this great honor."

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny once again sees Harrison Ford reprise his role as archaeologist Indiana Jones (Indy). Set in 1969, Indy must fight the evil Nazis Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) and Klaber (Boyd Holbrook).

Harrison Ford has stressed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is his last time playing Indiana Jones. "This is the last film in the series and the last time I play the character," Ford told Total Film magazine ahead of the Cannes Film Festival. Although he knows Disney is developing an Indiana Jones series for Disney+, Ford said he "wouldn't be involved in that, if that were to happen."

Notably, Indiana Jones 5 is the first Indy film not directed by Steven Spielberg. Director James Mangold took on directing duties for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

In April 2023, Steven Spielberg said he loved the latest Indiana Jones sequel: "Bob Iger had a screening for a lot of Disney executives, and I went to the screening with director James Mangold. Everyone loved the movie. It's a really good Indiana Jones movie. I'm proud of what James did with it."

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny features a cast of Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, John Rhys-Davies, Tobey Jones, Antonio Banderas... and will be released worldwide on June 30.
