Iran preparing to attack Israel more strongly?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên04/11/2024

The Wall Street Journal reported on November 3 that Iran is planning a retaliatory attack on Israel involving more powerful warheads and other weapons.

The Wall Street Journal quoted several Iranian and Arab officials as saying that Tehran had told Arab diplomats that its military would participate because it had lost four soldiers and one civilian in the Israeli attack on October 26.

An Egyptian official said Iran had privately warned of a "strong and complex" response. "Our army has lost people, so they need to respond," an Iranian official said. The official also said Iran could use Iraqi territory as part of a retaliatory strike and would likely target Israeli military facilities "but much stronger than last time."

Several Iranian and Arab officials have revealed that unlike the previous two attacks, Iran does not intend to limit missiles and drones, and any missiles used will have more powerful warheads.

Iran previously said it mainly launched four different types of medium-range ballistic missiles in its most recent attack on Israel on October 1, including the Emad and Ghadr missiles and Iran's two newest and most advanced missiles, the Kheibar Shekan and Fattah.

Another factor in Iran’s response is the 2024 US presidential election, according to the Iranian official. He asserted that Iran does not want to influence the US election with its attack, revealing that the response would come after the official election date of November 5 but before the president-elect takes office in January 2025.

The Wall Street Journal cited information from US intelligence agencies saying that Iran prefers Democratic presidential candidate, US Vice President Kamala Harris, over Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump.

There is currently no information about the reaction of Iran, Israel and the US to the above revelation.

Several officials from Egypt, Bahrain and Oman said Iranian diplomats had laid out the broad outlines of a potential retaliation following warnings from the US about engaging in a tit-for-tat with Israel, according to The Wall Street Journal .

Axios on November 2 quoted a US official and a former Israeli official as saying that the administration of US President Joe Biden has warned Iran in recent days not to launch another attack on Israel and stressed that Washington will not be able to restrain Israel.

Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei announced on November 2 that Tehran will retaliate against Israeli attacks targeting Iran and armed groups supported by Tehran.
