The Israel Defense Forces launched a wave of heavy attacks on Yemen on September 29. The main targets were the Red Sea port city of al-Hodeida, which is held by the Houthis, a force backed by Iran.
Dozens of Israeli Air Force aircraft, including fighter jets, refueling planes and reconnaissance planes, took part in the airstrikes about 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) from Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that the airstrikes targeted sites used by the Houthis for military purposes in al-Hodeida and the nearby port of Ras Isa in western Yemen.
“The Israel Defense Forces attacked power plants and ports used to import oil. Through the targeted infrastructure and ports, the Houthis transferred Iranian weapons and supplies for military purposes, including oil, to the area,” the report added.
The Israel Defense Forces noted that the airstrikes were carried out in response to recent ballistic missile attacks by the Houthis against Israel, including three attacks this month.

Yemen's Al-Masirah TV confirmed that the ports of al-Hodeida and Ras Isa were attacked, along with the al-Hali and al-Kathib power plants. The intense Israeli airstrikes caused large fires, according to the Houthi-run news channel, but did not specify whether there were any casualties.
After the attack, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on social network X: "The message is clear, for us, no place is too far away."
Houthi spokesman Mohamad Abdulsalam said the air strikes were an attempt to “disrupt” Yemen’s decision to support the Gaza Strip in the Palestinian enclave.
Since November, the Houthis have attacked dozens of Israeli-linked or US- and British-owned ships in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea in response to Israel's war in Gaza.
The group has also launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel, shooting down at least nine US-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.
The US and UK have also carried out multiple air strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January. Israel also carried out an attack on the Red Sea port of al-Hodeidah last July following a deadly drone attack by the Houthis on the city of Tel Aviv.
The airstrikes on Yemen have so far killed more than 50 people, including civilians, and wounded more than 200 others, but have failed to deter the Houthis or weaken their military capabilities.
