On October 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in collaboration with the Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka (Japan) organized a conference to connect trade between CGC Japan Group and Vietnamese enterprises.
In recent years, Japan has been Vietnam's leading economic and trade partner. The two countries have signed many bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) such as the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (AJCEP), the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans- Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). These FTAs create essential cooperation frameworks, promoting trade, investment and business relations between Vietnam and Japan.
In 2024, many key programs in Ho Chi Minh City were organized to further strengthen and tighten the friendly cooperative relationship with Japan. One of the outstanding events was the series of trade, investment, tourism promotion activities and the event "Ho Chi Minh City Day in Osaka, Japan" in May 2024.
Ho Chi Minh City is a major center of economics, finance, trade, culture, science - technology, innovation, education - training of Vietnam, contributing about 20% of GDP and 25% of the national budget. The city aims for rapid and sustainable economic development, focusing on growth model innovation, economic restructuring based on knowledge economy, technology application and innovation, with the goal of becoming a smart city and leading economic center in Southeast Asia by 2030.
Ms. Ho Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of the City Trade and Investment Promotion Center, said that the conference aims to create conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to approach 10 member enterprises of CGC Japan who are looking for new sources of imported goods from Vietnam such as pineapples, bananas, dried onions, basa fish, fried chicken, beans and frozen vegetables and fruits. The conference is not only a testament to ITPC's efforts in supporting Vietnamese enterprises but also to increase the export of goods through the Japanese distribution system, with support from the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan.
Ms. Ho Thi Quyen hopes that the program will provide opportunities for businesses of both sides to find potential and suitable partners and new business and import-export cooperation opportunities between the two sides, contributing to further promoting the partnership between Vietnam and Japan in general as well as the good cooperative relationship between Japan and Ho Chi Minh City in particular./.
