Hue: Regulating funding to reinforce coastal roads with serious landslides

Due to the impact of storm No. 12, the coastal road to Tan An Hai village, Phu Loc commune, Hue city has experienced serious erosion and landslides. In particular, the erosion has eaten into the frog's jaw more than 2m, the length of the landslide is about 400m. This leads to the risk of isolation of 63 households in Tan An Hai village.

In response to the ongoing landslides, on October 23rd, the Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, Hoang Hai Minh, visited the site to direct relevant agencies and implement measures to prevent further occurrences.

During the inspection, the Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee also requested the local authorities not to be complacent or negligent, but to closely monitor the actual situation to promptly handle any arising situations; at the same time, he requested the Phu Loc Commune People's Committee to quickly compile and report the damage so that the city can promptly allocate and regulate funds for reinforcement work and declare a state of emergency for this landslide site, ensuring the safety of the people and the road infrastructure leading to the village.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hai, head of Tan An Hai village, Phu Loc commune, Hue city, said that the sea has encroached about 5 meters. Currently, the village is urging residents to buy food supplies, limit travel along the landslide-affected road, and mobilizing forces to put up warning signs to ensure people's safety.

After inspecting the site, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hue City, said that the department is considering and proposing to the Hue City People's Committee to implement temporary measures to keep this road open and not cut off. Currently, many points along the coast of Hue City are experiencing erosion, and about one-third of the area has already been paved. Relevant agencies are also studying solutions suitable to the specific conditions of each area, and will then propose them to the central government for funding to pave the road in the near future.

The coastline along Hoa Duan residential area, Thuan An ward, continues to suffer severe erosion along a 1 km stretch; encroaching 50-70m inland, affecting essential infrastructure, tourism services, and posing a risk of sea encroachment. The coastline along Vinh Loc commune is also eroding along a 2 km stretch, encroaching 10-30m inland, affecting Provincial Road 21, essential infrastructure, and posing a risk of sea encroachment.
