A newly opened hotel in central Java is attempting to claim the title of " world's thinnest hotel" with a width of 2.8 meters.
PituRooms opened in December 2022 and is located in the town of Salgatiga, central Java. Hotel owner Ary Indra said the project not only aimed to set a world record but also to attract international tourists to this small town.

Born and raised in Salatiga, Ary studied engineering and then pursued a career in Jakarta and Singapore. After some time, he decided to return to his hometown and apply his knowledge to start his own business.
In Salatiga, Ary found a plot of land that no one wanted to buy because its dimensions weren't perfectly square. Currently, on that plot stands Pitu Rooms, a 5-story hotel with 7 rooms. Each room is spacious enough to fit a double bed, along with a small bathroom with a shower and toilet, and features a unique interior design.
The town is nestled at the foot of Mount Merbabu. Guests at PituRooms can enjoy stunning mountain views from their hotel rooms. There is a restaurant on the hotel's rooftop specializing in local cuisine. Pitu Rooms also plans to host events and art exhibitions.

"I want people to experience Salatiga in a new way," said the hotel owner.
The town of Salatiga is located more than 480 km southeast of the capital Jakarta and is virtually unknown to international tourists. This is also why, despite being open for almost a year, the hotel has only welcomed about 5% international guests.
Nevertheless, for Indonesians, Salatiga is known for its delicious food, good infrastructure, and quality of life. Most people consider the town to be "a great place to retire."
