Opening of Vietnam-Laos Trade Fair 2025

On the afternoon of July 17, at the Lao International Exhibition and Convention Center (Lao-Itecc) in the capital Vientiane, the opening ceremony of the Vietnam-Laos Trade Fair (VIETLAO EXPO) 2025 took place with a scale of about 250 booths of businesses from the two countries.

This is the biggest trade promotion event of the year co-hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Lao Ministry of Industry and Trade, and assigned to the Trade Promotion Departments of the two countries to coordinate with relevant agencies to organize annually since 2007.

The event was attended by Lao Minister of Industry and Trade Malaythong Kommasith; Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai. Also attending were Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam; representatives of Vietnamese and Lao enterprises, along with a large number of Lao people and the Vietnamese community in Laos.

Speaking at the event, Lao Minister of Industry and Trade Malaythong Kommasith said that this was the 15th time the Fair was held, becoming a national-level commodity exhibition, contributing to promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two governments and peoples. The Fair has played an important role in developing trade, investment, tourism, and at the same time actively contributing to the socio-economic development of both countries.

Appreciating the interest and active participation of Vietnamese and Lao enterprises in this year's Fair, demonstrated through the scale and diversity of displayed goods, the Lao Minister of Industry and Trade also expressed his belief that the event will contribute to promoting bilateral trade, realizing the cooperation goals set by the leaders of the two countries.

The Lao Minister of Industry and Trade said that the two-way trade turnover between Laos and Vietnam in 2024 reached 2.25 billion USD, an increase of 38.2% over the previous year. Notably, in the first 5 months of 2025, the total import-export turnover between the two countries reached 1.6 billion USD, an increase of 100.4% over the same period in 2024.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai, the Vietnam-Laos Trade Fair is one of the large-scale annual trade promotion activities co-organized by the two countries' Ministries of Industry and Trade, with the aim of contributing to the implementation of the directions of the two Politburoes , the Joint Statements and High-level Agreements of the two countries. Specifically, the trade cooperation commitments at the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation taking place in January 2025, under the chairmanship of the two countries' Prime Ministers.

“The fair also has practical significance, contributing to strengthening economic connectivity, promoting investment and trade, expanding markets, promoting each side's strong products, creating conditions for businesses of the two countries to meet, seek investment and business cooperation opportunities towards the goal of sustainable growth and common prosperity,” Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai emphasized.

Following the success of previous fairs, VIETLAO EXPO 2025 takes place from July 17-21 at the Lao International Exhibition and Convention Center (Lao-Itecc) in Vientiane, Laos. This year's fair has 250 standard booths; including 120 booths of nearly 80 quality, branded and reputable Vietnamese enterprises in industries such as: Pharmaceuticals and medical equipment; Agriculture - forestry - seafood and processed food; Garment - fashion; Handicrafts and interior and exterior decoration; Plastics and consumer products...

The Vietnamese business delegation participating in the Fair aims to: Promote the image of the country and Vietnamese businesses; Promote exports, expand the consumption network of Vietnamese goods in the Lao market and the Northeast region of Thailand; Create an environment to introduce the potential and strengths of businesses in Vietnam's economic sectors...

Ms. Pham Thi Hong, Deputy Director of Tien Sa Salanganes Nest Company (Da Nang), shared that this is the third time her company has participated in a trade fair to promote goods in Laos with the desire to bring her products closer to Lao friends as well as the international community here.

Mr. Southakon Sonvisay, a business representative from Huaphanh province, (Laos) said that this was the 5th time his business participated in the fair with the desire to promote and introduce products to the Vietnamese, Lao and international communities.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy General Director of Star Telecom Company (Unitel), said that the company is currently the largest network operator in Laos with 100% coverage. Participating in the fair is an opportunity for Unitel to affirm its pioneering role in developing telecommunications infrastructure and demonstrate its commitment to serving the people, businesses and government of Laos.

According to the organizers, within the framework of the Fair, there will also be activities such as: trade transactions between Vietnamese and Lao enterprises; Trade connection conferences... Organizing the Fair not only helps to effectively bridge businesses and investors of Vietnam and Laos to meet and exchange experiences, transfer technology, cooperate in investment, and form joint ventures, but is also a meaningful political, economic and social event, contributing to strengthening the special traditional friendship between the Party, Government and people of Vietnam and Laos.
