VBA 2023 season opens with an attractive format

On June 10, the opening ceremony of VBA 5x5 2023 took place in Hanoi, attracting the attention of a large number of fans with the stands filled with spectators. For the second consecutive year opening in Hanoi, VBA continues to bring a new feeling to fans in the capital with a centralized competition model (Centralized) until the end of June.

VBA 2023 season has started

Opening the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Hoang Anh, committee member   Standing member of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Basketball Federation said: "Since its establishment, with the mission of being the locomotive for Vietnamese basketball, VBA has not only persistently passed on the fire but also continuously innovated and improved to adapt to the new situation as well as get closer to the community. During that process, the success of the two recently tested centralized competition models has helped VBA have an important stepping stone for VBA 2023 to become the first season with a 50% increase in the number of group stage matches with the competition of all 7 clubs.

Hopefully, in the initial phase of applying the centralized competition model in Hanoi - a locality that always supports and has the leading basketball development movement in Vietnam - it will not only meet the needs of healthy entertainment, connecting clubs with audiences, but also help players practice better, improve their performance so that Vietnamese basketball can not only conquer the regional arena but also reach higher goals at the continental level in the future."

All VBA 2023 matches will be broadcast live on ON Sports News, ON Sports Action, ON Sports channels starting from Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day of the week. VBA 5x5 2023 has a total of 74 matches organized in a centralized competition model combining home and away matches with the competition of 7 VBA clubs in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Can Tho . Specifically, the group stage consists of 63 matches taking place from June 10 to September 3. The semi-final stage with 6 matches is expected to take place from September 7 to September 15. The final stage with 5 matches is expected to take place from September 17 to September 30.

In the group stage, the teams will meet each other 3 times instead of 2 times like VBA 2022. Therefore, the number of matches will be increased to 63 matches (an increase of 50% compared to 2022). These 21 increased matches will be organized by VBA according to the centralized competition model at Cau Giay Stadium (No. 35 Tran Quy Kien, Dich Vong Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi) from June 10 to June 30. The remaining matches of the season will be organized according to the home and away model in the localities of the 7 clubs.
