Unlocking the value of the region

Leveraging regional advantages to organize career guidance activities is one of the effective approaches implemented by educational institutions.

According to assessments from educational institutions, diversifying career guidance methods has created opportunities for many students to access professional knowledge at different levels and according to their needs.

Accordingly, students can "browse" through activities such as visits, experiences, or in-depth research through scientific and technical research, project implementation, and startup ideas within the school. Among these, a popular, effective, and widely recognized approach over the years has been exploring local values in career guidance and vocational training at secondary schools.

Among them, there are many outstanding projects such as: "Producing AMRÊČ salt for ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands", "Designing and manufacturing a passion fruit pulp extraction machine to automate the production process and increase labor productivity" by students of Dong Du Secondary and High School; the project "Producing biodegradable modeling clay from dragon fruit peels" by students of Le Quy Don High School…

Recently, the project "Research on some products from k'nia seeds – A gift from the forest" by a group of students from Cao Nguyen Practice High School won third prize at the 7th Student Entrepreneurship Ideas Competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with relevant units in Ho Chi Minh City. Ha Gia Bao, a student from Cao Nguyen Practice High School and a member of the project team, shared that the project stemmed from a desire to revive the cultural products of the Central Highlands people, specifically the seeds of the k'nia tree. The k'nia tree is a cultural symbol of the Central Highlands people and produces seeds with high nutritional value. Many children in Buon Don district still collect k'nia seeds to sell, but the income is unstable, so he and his friends came up with the idea and implemented the project.

Interestingly, published research shows that k'nia seeds contain healthy fats and high levels of protein, surpassing many other seeds. Products made from k'nia seeds (candies, cookies, and gluten-free rice paper) are handcrafted, low-cost, and ensure food safety. Nguyen Pham Huyen Linh, a participant in this project, said that the rice paper is the most popular product because it is gluten-free, suitable for those on diets or with starch allergies. During product displays and presentations, consumers were very impressed and expressed interest in ordering large quantities. Therefore, establishing and developing the family's traditional rice paper making craft in Dak Lak, linked to local culture, is a worthwhile career path.

Dak Lak possesses numerous advantages in terms of land and climate for developing agriculture, ecotourism, and culture. Therefore, leveraging these values in vocational education with a distinctive occupational structure is a direction that the education sector is paying attention to, meeting the career trends of society. To unlock regional values in vocational education, educational institutions can implement the following activities: strengthening the participation of vocational education institutions and businesses in developing curricula, materials, and evaluating the results of vocational education; coordinating between educational institutions (general education, universities, vocational schools), production and business establishments to exploit and utilize facilities and teaching equipment to serve vocational education…

Students from Dong Du Secondary and High School are researching and improving the product of the project "Producing AMRÊČ salt for ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands".

According to Dr. Le Thi Thao, Head of the Department of General Education and Vocational Education - Continuing Education (Department of Education and Training), the school environment, with active support from the school and society, is the ideal space for conducting career guidance activities for students. When students are given the opportunity to develop ideas linked to practice, they will be able to develop their creative abilities and sense of social responsibility.

In reality, career guidance in high schools is not simply about career orientation, but also a process of helping students understand themselves, discover the compatibility between their abilities and personal interests and the needs of the labor market.

The Government's Project on Career Education and Student Streamlining in General Education for the period 2018-2025 also clearly indicated the necessity of innovating content and methods in an integrated manner, meeting the development trends of domestic professions.

An effective career guidance process will help students develop a proper understanding of professions, become more confident in setting goals, find joy and motivation in their future work, and ultimately contribute fully to society.

Furthermore, effective career guidance education at the secondary level will help minimize the "mismatch" between human resources and market demand, preventing the waste of young talents…
