In many countries around the world, energy is becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. In our country, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group ( Petrovietnam ) has ensured the supply of strategic goods, especially key products such as crude oil, gas, electricity, gasoline and oil, which has contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the country's socio-economic development goals. This is the result of Petrovietnam's great efforts in the context of high economic demand.
According to information from Petrovietnam, Petrovietnam's production and business results in May and the first 5 months of 2023 continued to maintain impressive growth momentum. Notably, crude oil exploitation in May 2023 reached 0.92 million tons, exceeding the monthly plan by 15.6%. In the first 5 months, the Group's crude oil exploitation is estimated at 4.41 million tons, exceeding the plan by 13.7% and equal to 47.5% of the yearly plan. Gas exploitation in May 2023 is estimated at 0.73 billion m3 , exceeding the plan by 24.5%, up 78.5% over the same period in 2022. In the first 5 months of 2023, Petrovietnam's gas exploitation is estimated at 3.42 billion m3 , exceeding the 5-month plan by 21.2%, equal to 57.6% of the 2023 plan.
The above results show the great efforts of Petrovietnam in ensuring production output when most of Vietnam's key mines are on the path of natural decline. This also demonstrates the efforts and effectiveness of Petrovietnam and its member units in applying many technical measures to maintain production output while ensuring mine safety.

Regarding domestic gasoline and oil production (including Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited), in May, it reached 1.47 million tons, exceeding the monthly plan by 50.4%; up 12.3% compared to April 2023 and growing by 32.6% over the same period in 2022. In the first 5 months, gasoline and oil production of all kinds reached 6.3 million tons, exceeding the 5-month plan by 26.5%, equal to 56% of the 2023 plan and growing by 18.1% over the same period in 2022.
In particular, in the context of the risk of power shortage for production and daily life of the country, the event of Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant going into commercial power generation has helped Petrovietnam's entire electricity production achieve great leaps. Accordingly, in May, Petrovietnam produced 2.77 billion kWh, equal to 100% of the monthly plan, up 7.8% compared to April 2023. In the first 5 months, Petrovietnam produced 10.03 billion kWh of commercial electricity, exceeding the 5-month plan by 1%, equal to 42.5% of the annual plan and growing by 46.6% compared to the same period in 2022.
By constantly expanding its scale of operations and perfecting its oil and gas value chain and supply chain, Petrovietnam has become a strong economic group domestically and internationally, a tool for regulating the Government's macro-economy, playing an important and pivotal role in ensuring energy security, food security, economic security, national defense and security. The Group's key products such as crude oil, gas, electricity, gasoline, oil, etc. are also inputs for other industries and production sectors of the economy. Petrovietnam's maintenance of growth momentum, maintaining production pace, and ensuring the supply of strategic goods has also created a foundation for many other industries and sectors of the economy to develop.
