In Thai, the name Cu Vai means a strip of cloud hanging across the sky.
Seen from above, this village is located on a flat mountain top, with a straight road running between two rows of traditional wooden houses of the people. Therefore, many people associate this place as a makeshift airport perched on the top of the mountain, similar to Lukla airport - known as "the most dangerous airport in the world ".
Previously, Cu Vai village was located on a hillside about 2 km from its current location. However, the old residence had many potential landslide risks, so Yen Bai province mobilized and moved people to a new, safer place.
In 2017, thanks to the program "Carrying electricity to the village" by Miss Do My Linh, people in the village had electricity to light up.
Mr. Le Xuan Nam (29 years old), a travel enthusiast, came to Cu Vai village at the end of May, on a trip to explore Tram Tau.
Mr. Nam said he had heard about this "village in the clouds" for a long time so he always wanted to visit it.
Luckily, when he visited, after the rain, white clouds filled the village, surrounded by towering mountains and winding terraced fields.
The male tourist was captivated by the wild and beautiful nature here. He wandered around the village, looking at the simple wooden houses, chatting with the H'Mong people and children in the village.
"The children here are very lovely and innocent. You can bring some gifts and cakes to share with them," said Mr. Nam.
When Mr. Nam arrived, there was a homestay and two small grocery stores. It was not the tourist season so the village was very quiet.
"If staying here, visitors can walk through the mountains, terraced fields to breathe fresh air, and participate in production with the locals to better understand their customs and practices," Nam shared.
Each season, Cu Vai village has its own beauty. December to January is the most ideal time for cloud hunting, even frost can appear here.
In spring, peach and plum blossoms bloom around the village, creating a dreamy scene. From September to November, the terraced fields turn golden yellow.
"The road to the village is quite steep but there is a concrete road, convenient for 4-seat and 7-seat cars to travel," said Mr. Nam. However, visitors should avoid going during rainy season when the road is slippery.
